Day 6 & 7 – 31.07.2010 & 01.08.2010: These two days were spent in sleeping, eating and wandering around the lanes. Leh, the district headquarter of Ladakh, is situated at the foot of Namgyal Hills in the valley north of the Indus River. At that time of the year the temperature was somewhere around 20 to 25 degree Celsius. But it was told that it ranges from minus 40 in winters to plus 35 in summers. The road from the airport runs straight to the end of the main bazaar. Leh is not difficult to navigate around, with narrow intersecting lanes and one main street leading to the old, dilapidated palace of the king. Day 5 – 30.07.2010: An unforgettable breathless night at an altitude of 4290 mts was then the past. Some of us had a sound sleep like MF and some had just pretended to sleep and some had constantly changed sides. But still, despite unfavourable bodily responses of previous day, it was the most beautiful morning in the valley of Sarchu. ASO was the first one to wake-up. Slowly and steadily others too left their beds. It was 0700 hrs, the sun was shining brightly on the east horizon, bikers and transporters had already started their day. Day 4 – 29.07.2010: The day started with a hit on snooze button of the alarm clock at 0500 hrs. Warmness of the bed-room inside Log-hut and last day’s tiredness were the reasons why nobody was willing to come out from quilt. But the excitement to travel the less travelled road was much stronger than the comforts. Within an hour, we all were ready for a journey of 473 kms via some of world’s highest motorable mountain passes. Our first destination was Rohtang Pass which was 52 kms from Manali on Manali-Leh highway at an altitude of 3978 mts. Prior to reaching Rohtang Pass we took our trainer and skiing kit from Manali. HOW? It all started with someone chirping in the name of “Ladhakh” at some evening gathering at RP+MF’s house. Research started immediately on the routes and possibilities. Enthusiasm was on top that evening. By the morning of next day all was forgotten. All energies doomed into some meaningful past. Months passed by. MSN (who was also a member in that fruitful evening) constantly asked RP about the plans to visit Leh. Though most of the times he disowned the plan and sub consciously made effort to portray that he was not part of the failed plan by asking: “What about your plans to go on a trip to Leh?” Anyways.
