emberjeunesse - Candice Jeunesse

Candice Jeunesse I guess I canīt say I love traveling, because all traveling was not created equal.
I love adventure. I love real experiences. I love spontaneity. I love having no plan.
I donīt want to take vacations.
I want to live as other people live around the world.
I want to be changed by travel, permanently and seriously.
I want to die someday, knowing the world has many faces, happy to have seen as many as I could, happy to know that the way my culture lives, is not the only way.
So I guess this is me writing about how all that goes.

Hi everybody! As most of you know, I am very zealous about projects when I first begin them, i.e. my blog, and after a couple of weeks of a raging torrent of creative brilliance, that flood tapers off to a trickle, then to an echoing drip, then to nothing. And here we find ourselves. In a nutshell, I am pretty frickin' lazy, and I just can't be bothered to document my adventures in a manner suitable for public reading. You think it's easy to be this clever? I'm sure it will make you happy to know that I am keeping up [View Full Entry]

Sorry it's been a while since my last post. Been busy trekking and in transit to Laos. Right now we are in Chiang Khong, spending the night until tomorrow, when we leave to take the 2 day slow boat down the Mekong river to Luang Prabuang, which is in Laos. While we're there we're going to go tubing. Yes, the same kind as you do on the Guadalupe. It's going to rock! Duh. I'm not sure what else we'll do there, as we have no real agenda, but we have a 30 day visa, and a whole country. Only the good [View Full Entry]

As fate would have it, the swashbuckling trio didn't make it to Laos as they had anticipated. But then, by this time, they had learned to expect the unexpected. Okay, that was going nowhere. We learned that it was easier to get to Laos via Chiang Mai, a place we all had wanted to visit anyhow, so here we are. We took 14ish hour extremely slow, extremelier rickity but still really nifty train ride from Bangkok to Chaing Mai. I am obviously taking extreme liberties with the english language, so, deal with it. All the seats turned into beds, and beds [View Full Entry]

Friends...We are gathered here today to join together, in holy awesomeness, Candice and Bangkok.... Haha! So, I've discovered that, when dealing with inebriated people, of any nationality, you must make certain allowances for jack assitude. I know that my friends have done so for me, and now, I continue that tradition. Turns out the Brits who I previously complained about are actually really cool. One is James, one is Martin. I spent yesterday exploring around Bangkok with James. We went to this HUGE outdoor weekend market, the name of which I can't remember. We ate uber yummy Thai noodles [View Full Entry]

Just wanted to let everyone know that I made it safely. I have to admit I'm extremely overwhelmed. I'm not even quite sure what the date is here. And I've barely slept in the past 2 days. Fun stuff.... My brain is still constantly repeating, "what the fuck am I doing?" I think the lonliness is starting to kick in. Not that there aren't plenty of people around to talk with. I think I've been doing quite well at being sociable. But those new people, I'm trying to get to know a complete stranger interactions can be exhausting and not exactly [View Full Entry]

Exactly one week until my departure for South East Asia... I have alot of preparations to make, mostly mental. I haven't been allowing myself to think too much about my upcoming trip, so as to not live it out in my head before hand, but also, and mostly, so as to not send myself into a fit of panic and a spiral of "what the frick am I doing?" thoughts. But I suppose now is that time. Time for confirming itineraries, acquiring a few last minute things, cleaning up the house, packing, finding out where the frick my new drivers license [View Full Entry]

On the way
On the way
Me, at an especially photogenic moment
So I was going a little crazy, you know, a classic case of the travel bug. I searched around for 2 days but I couldn't find anything that would work with James' study schedule, or if it did, nothing I could afford. So, after considerable pouting, I decided that we would go to South Padre Island. So now we're here. Some times we go to the beach, sometimes, we go to the hot tub, sometimes I read, sometimes we eat yum yum. One time we went to Schlitterbahn. That was fun, but not as much fun as the one in New [View Full Entry]

So this entry doesn't look totally boring.
James and I are making tentative plans for a month in Costa Rica in August. You know how our plans are though, always changing. But I'm going somewhere goddammit! Any way I'll keep the updates posted. Why have a travel blog if you can't bore everyone with not only every detail of your trip, but also every detail of planning, from the moment of conception. You lucky subscribers! [View Full Entry]

Yesterday I went to the Houston Zoo with James' mom Iva, Ivanna, Celestina, and Leandrew. I mostly hung around with Ivanna, who is 13, but we get along really well. Maybe it's because I'm so immature. We saw tigers doing laps, to whom Ivanna (Vanaynay for short) offered her arm for eating, in exchange for petting privleges. Vanaynay also made distinctly accurate animal calls at each of the habitats. I think she can talk to animals. Like Dr. Doolittle. Only they must think she's annoying, because none really responded to her. We had rainbow sno cones as a tasty treat. At [View Full Entry]
