Sorry it's been a while since my last post. Been busy trekking and in transit to Laos. Right now we are in Chiang Khong, spending the night until tomorrow, when we leave to take the 2 day slow boat down the Mekong river to Luang Prabuang, which is in Laos. As fate would have it, the swashbuckling trio didn't make it to Laos as they had anticipated. But then, by this time, they had learned to expect the unexpected. Okay, that was going nowhere. We learned that it was easier to get to Laos via Chiang Mai, a place we all had wanted to visit anyhow, so here we are. Friends...We are gathered here today to join together, in holy awesomeness, Candice and Bangkok.... Haha! So, I've discovered that, when dealing with inebriated people, of any nationality, you must make certain allowances for jack assitude. Just wanted to let everyone know that I made it safely. I have to admit I'm extremely overwhelmed. I'm not even quite sure what the date is here. And I've barely slept in the past 2 days. Exactly one week until my departure for South East Asia... I have alot of preparations to make, mostly mental. I haven't been allowing myself to think too much about my upcoming trip, so as to not live it out in my head before hand, but also, and mostly, so as to not send myself into a fit of panic and a spiral of "what the frick am I doing?" thoughts. So I was going a little crazy, you know, a classic case of the travel bug. I searched around for 2 days but I couldn't find anything that would work with James' study schedule, or if it did, nothing I could afford. So, after considerable pouting, I decided that we would go to South Padre Island. So now we're here. Yesterday I went to the Houston Zoo with James' mom Iva, Ivanna, Celestina, and Leandrew. I mostly hung around with Ivanna, who is 13, but we get along really well. Maybe it's because I'm so immature. We saw tigers doing laps, to whom Ivanna (Vanaynay for short) offered her arm for eating, in exchange for petting privleges. Vanaynay also made distinctly accurate animal calls at each of the habitats. I think she can talk to animals. Like Dr. Doolittle.
