your journey Hey Alisa and Todd, I sure do enjoy reading your stories. Very descriptive and I appreciate your understated humor. Thanks for keeping me in the loop--it's a fun way to enjoy your vacation.

brr 42 degrees in Syracuse, 38 here in Burlington... -8 in Cortez! -14 is forecasted for tonight. Besides the worry of your pipes freezing, it looks as if you picked the right week to get away. Hope all is well.
inspiration I was slightly on the fence about leaving the boys with my mom this weekend for an overnight (especially since Sam is still waking up once/night to nurse), but once I read your blog, I decided we needed to do it. So, we'll be in Ouray this weekend, sans kids, and trying not to worry about them too much! :) Have a great time!
Thanks for letting me accompany you on your fantastic hike across Grand Canyon. Your comments at each stage were intriguing. Almost as if I was there with you.The photos are great too. Thanks for including me on your adventure. Popper
boy i'm glad someone wasa over there today - what a day! beautiful beautiful. feel free to come help us stain the house tomorrow now that you've gotten all that pesky fun out of your system.
Comb Ridge Spent a lovely day out there today investigating sites, wondering about the red rocks and among the nearly-full tanks, and gazing over the drop-off from the top of the Ridge. No people, no bugs, no wind. Life is good out yonder in the desert. (oh, I forgot to mention, no kids...)
AMAZING! Lisa and Todd,
I so look forward to my virtual travels with you and your fabulous fam! These pictures are truly amazing. If we don't get out that way to experience first-hand just a piece of that country... well, I don't know what I'll do. Someday...but for now, we're off to Fort Myers to enjoy some sand and waves.
Take care and hope to see you this year sometime.
Julie
We wanna come too! Next time, invite us (with somewhat nicer weather though - we do have a 3 month old). The baby did great camping this past weekend in SE Arizona, and we're itching to do it again. Can you believe we've never camped in Canyonlands?
Hey Elise! Sorry, it doesn't let me see who is commenting. How are you! Enjoying Lopburi? I can't wait to hear all about it when you come home. Tell your dad to cough up some cash so you can go big and get a *gasp* 200 baht room with fewer cooties in it. This is my third attempt to respond to myself so if there ends up being 3 redundant messages on this thing at some point, you'll know why. email me if i can send you any comfort foods (or anything) alisa.gardiner@eea.coop
I was struck by how MELLOW the dogs were in Thailand and Cambodia probably a combination of heat and hunger (esp in Cambodia of course) - everywhere they were just lying around, usually in the middle of the paths, stoops, sidewalks, roads. Trusting creatures. Where are you living? Yes, shoulders are shameful things, aren't they? :)
You forgot the dogs... You described Bangkok so perfectly....I mean I was cracking up. But, did you see all the dogs? Maybe you don't have to save money like me, and stay in 100 baht hostels w/bed bugs...but there are dogs EVERYWHERE!!! I live in a town 2 hours north of Bangkok, and the heat goes up 10 notches, and I too, dress for snowstorms daily. Shame on me if I wear tank tops... that's just too revealing!
ice cream?????????? I don't know nothing about no ice cream--Todd must have contracted the dreaded thai fever... it's paradice here in all this snow, more coming, no place to pile it now.
sorry we haven't had time to respond to everyone - internet time is usually short and we barely have time to get the blogs posted...many other things get neglected. but we love the comments! thank you for posting them
michael - am aware of the Cove documentary and watched an extended clip of it at a film festival in Dolores. we'll have to brace ourselves and watch the full length version at some point...sometimes to hard to know hard truths....
as for meditation potential in the temples, they're busy but intricately laid out and even have meditation rooms for the monks so possibilities exist...and the surroundings can be quite surreal...
macette and papa - so nice to see your voices. thank you for the note! yes we're having a wonderful time but will be happy to get home to our babies. we send you all of our love!
chuck, we fully expect to be debriefed upon our return to el cortez at a waffle breakfast a la charles. todd also reminds me that dammit you owe us ice cream thanks to us being a high bidder at the river fundraiser. since the statute of limitations is about to run out on that he is telling me to let you know that he has a memory like an elephant and he wants his $15 gallon if ice cream. :) xo
mom, we're doing great and i think you guys would be entertaining to accompany to this part of the world. tell keith to bring his med bag because i think he'd do quite well with a bucket of antibiotics and bandaids in Cambodia - he'd probably increase the life expectancy single handedly over there with a week's worth of donated time. if you ever see us on skype, give us a call! otherwise we'll talk to you in a week. love you guys xoxo
Living the dream in SW Colorado, in the heart of some of the world's prettiest mountains and canyon country. We chip away at world travel as life allows and will soon be dragging our two kids with us so that they too can have the perspective that travel brings.
