I stayed at Santarem Hostel too. They sent me to Restaurante Saloio where I pigged out for 11 euros. Later I sat with the hostel owners on the terrace eating limpets, drinking wine and talking about Brierley, hostels and tomatoes.
Memories..., memories So often in the corners of our mind
From the picture of Kelly and Maia, I remember that ski poles always came with skis
Love the blog, love what your doing and reading about it, to liven up our days here
Paul
Forgive yourself early my friend. If women didn\'t forget the hardship of childbearing,...there would be NO second or subsequent children. Memory favors the optimistic and idealistic sides of human beings and that is generally a great thing! Journey on my friend and savor it!
so much planning....so much opportunity for derailment! Couldn't be more excited to hear your excitement in the planning of sharing this with your family David! In truth my family wants to go as well, and I with them, but the sheer bombardment of opinions and desires cannot be properly or easily fulfilled. Friends have joined in to the throng of peregrino exuberance and it's looking like Machu Picchu is happening first... the complexities of including every willing pilgrim second!
Looking forward to hearing of your mad adventures and hysterical pontifications! By the way... hold on to your hat this time!.... and may this be a "lager" free journey!
Although I intended to blog while walking the Camino and felt no drive whatsoever to do so once I commenced, I did relish with great enthusiasm, reading your blog David.... every time you posted! You made the short time Kristin and I spent with you hilarious and equally effortless.... minus the alcohol. :)
Time shared with you is some of our best memories and eventually we will be conscience free to release photos of our final celebrations and libations in Santiago. Eventually.
Cheers my far away friend!
ahhh, found you at last! Ahhh, David, I have been checking your blog and thought you hadn't posted anything - until today and I realised I was stuck on the first page! (because of course that's what I set the link to) So, I have just caught up a bit and I do like this last post, it's nice to hear you revealing a bit more of what you are going through internally and to hear that the internal negative spin doctors are getting out of the way and letting some genuine praises through... :) Hope you're feeling well, and the sun is shinning just enough to keep you smiling but not too much to make you stew. Kd x
Enjoying your blogs Thanks for sharing your perspectives! I've enjoyed browsing a few of your entries. I've also been fascinated by the Catholic thing in Spain. It seems there's a lot of talk about Catholicism, but not much real devotion. Only 15% or so attend church every week, but you'd think differently from the ridiculous numbers of churches. They seem to be Catholic in culture, but only religious for the important sacraments in their lives. I hope you're having a great trip!
What Great Memories Fantastic stuff David, what great memories you are going to have from this when you have finished! You are doing some long distances, what is the total distance you hope to cover?
Hi Bernie
Trying to do the whole way to Santiago (800 odd Kms). Will see when I´m there if I can face the extra 90 odd to Fisterre and the sea. I´m about to do a blog about distance so I´ll leave the last bit of your question for now
Cheers
David
Hey Dave Sounds like you're have an interesting time - a fountain of wine!!!! That's my dream, must get one! Hope you were able to shake the creepy Italian, loving reading your blogs mate, keep it up and stay safe x

(Gimme the Car - Violet Femmes)
. . . . . or at the very least let me borrow the donkey for a few hours! (Obviously, not the good one).
Just to put some persepctive on things I'm currently doing a lunchtime run of 2.8kms. By my caluclations, assuming I do the run 5 days a week I'll hit the 790 km mark on the 17th of July 2013. You can't say we're not there with you in spirit!
Journey well... Thank you for sharing this journey with us a little David. This note is to encourage you to post - by sharing our struggles out of the woods (or into them) we help each other - we all feel alone going there, but everyone ends up there sometimes. Its nice to know we are not alone. I hope you find your journey profound and nourishing and come back safe and sound. Love from home.
