developpement help or alterity quest Your diary is very interresting on two ways:
First of all it is full of remarquable pictures that are usefull, nice, and sometimes moving. It is a good show of your job and of the country (I've visited few times south and central philippines)
But overall, it has a quite good reflection and analysis on how to provide developpement to poorer countries.
Reading your words, from your weekly reports, we can see that sometimes you are doubting on how to do (you say : "We must speak only when we are sure it is usefull". And however the reader can see that in fact you set the common way of western civilisation sometimes consciouly and with regrets ("in future we plan to buy computers from Asia"), and sometimes without willing and a little ingenuously (e.g. when you find good to give english lyrics to your scout girls team ... so that the scout practice that have been appropriated to local people returns to the foreign western world...)
So, at the end, and for your own, can you tell if this kind of support to developpement is the right way or if it must go more through local involvement?
Thanks heaps! Lisa, it's been a pleasure to have a window to your world in your experiences with EWB. Thanks for sharing your reports, impressions, frustrations, enthusiasm and stunning photos with me! I look forward to talking to you about it once you're back in SK for a wee while.
These pictures make me homesick! Thanks for sharing your travel pictures in the Philippines. As a Filipina, the sight of "banana cue", "langka", and "calachuchi" brings nostalgic pangs of home. Glad you are enjoying your stay!
Sounds delicious! The food sounds delicious (and yes, I am envious of you eating FRESH mussels!). I can't get over how happy the people look in your pictures. Are they just like that all the time or do they like being photographed? By the way, you come by your love of markets very honestly!!
coloured scarves you say that the girls wear different coloured scarves to distinguish their rank or whatever. you say that the younger ones wear pink and that the older ones wear pink.I don't mean any disrespect, just had to read it twice and got a chuckle out of it!!!I enjoyed reading about you and your work. Thank you.
Update Nice to see the new pics and get an update on your whereabouts. Hopefully you'll get to your new placement soon. In the meantime take lots of pics of Manila.
We're still in BC. Found 2 properties. Now we have to decide!!! We're at Richard's until Sunday.
Love, Mum
Awesome pics Great pictures. Keep 'em coming. You know how I love to look at pictures and I know I'm not the only one reading your blog who's like that!
Cute kids Those little girls are very, very cute. You'll have lots of possibilities for the GG calendar when you get back. The girls are so photogenic! Good idea to give them the words.
New blog site This looks like a much better blog site. I love your pictures of the Girl Scouts (have a hard time not calling them Girl Guides!). Keep the pictures coming!!
