Marrakesh was wonderful. We were very close to the souks (markets) and wandered around then most days. Bikes were always racing past which was a bit crazy at times but Dad only managed to bowl one person over… Not too many people and not too hassly. In fact overall we found everyone to be great and no problems. Lucy was a tough haggler and bought herself quite a few things. The shawls we’d bought in Korea to cover the girls shoulders were perfect. The best method of transport was horse and cart - to Lucys delight, and we managed to get all 7 of on one each time. We walked into the main square a few times and then had a horse and cart ride back. The square in the evening was amazing. Masses of people ... read more

Arrived in Marrakesh and loaded our luggage into carts to be taken into the Medina (old city) to find our Riad. It was beautiful, comfortable and the pool was especially welcome as it is still very hot. We had dinner at the Riad on the first night so it was very relaxing. We have so many photos it is hard to select some. Those who are interested can see more when we get home. ... read more

Our mini bus driver collected us from the hotel and took us to the new Hussan II Mosque. It is only 6 years old and is huge. The third biggest in the world and would fit St Peters (Rome) or St Pauls (London) inside it apparently. We very very lucky as we were the only English speaking people so it was just us and the guide. The other groups were all huge. Lucy loved the size of it and ran around very happily. Ken has taken so many wonderful photos it is hard to know what to put in.... read more

Had a long but comfortable and uneventful drive down to Casablanca, where we were meeting Mum and Dad. We arrived in the early evening and they arrived after 11pm. Had a relaxing next day, staying around the pool and going for a short walk. The hotel was in a residential area and there was lots of new construction around it. ... read more

Very easy getting the ferry from Spain to Morocco and then we were met by the mini bus driver I had organized. Drove from Tangier to chefchaouen in the Rif mountains passing small villages, pottery stalls and more donkey than I could previously imagine. Chefchaouen was lovely. The B&B was great with lovely views from the roof terrace we ate, talked and the girls played games with owners son and the Moroccan neighbours. Beautiful dinners prepared for us by the neighbour, probably the best we had in Morocco and a lovely setting. The owners were Scottish and gave of lots of information about travelling in Morocco and reassured us on how safe it was. Chefchaouen itself was a lovely town cascading down the hill with many blue and white houses. We walked into it on our ... read more

We spent our last day in Spain driving through the Pueblo Blancos (white villages) in southern Spain. Had a lovely day - apart from Lucy being stung by a wasp which was very sore. Had lunch in Grazalema, a popular village with a band playing in the square where we had lunch. Drove further to Ronda which is the largest and most touristy of the villages, and is only an hour up from the Costa del Sol (ie coast full of English and German tourists). There are two parts to the village with a 100m deep gorge between them and a bridge spanning the gorge. Dspite having seen photos before we went I was very surprised. It is far better than I expected and a great view. We went to the bull fighting ring (despite Ken ... read more

I've just realised that even though we had internet in Seville I never actually managed to write about... Suburban Seville I had booked us a 5 bed apartment (3 bedrooms), which wasn't easy to do. We knew it was of in the centre but erent sure what type of area it would be. Turned out to be suburban Seville. Large blocks of apartments with no outdoor areas really apart from some concrete areas that were very unappealing. Some of the apartments had tiny decks, but most (ours included) had the deck space incorporated in the lounge area. It was hot so it was odd not to be outside. The apartment did have air conditioning and was quite comfortable. Hard for any of us to image actually living there though. The owners had lived in it but ... read more

Spent our last day in Seville at a fun park with lots of rides that made us a bit wet, which was great as it was very hot. Great day and ended in the old city centre for a walk by the cathedral then dinner. Our week in Arcos in southern Sapin was a good break from cities. Our apartment was in a huge line of townhouses of which there are many dotted around. Owned by a Brit who doesn't want to be there but stupidly (we think) bought two townhouses on spec thinkning she could make some quick, easy money. Of course its never that easy and now the economy is not so good she can't get rid of them. She speaks no Sanish and knows no-one and wants to be in Marbella (the English ... read more

Granada Oh dear its a hard life.... We're in Seville having a day of doing nothing. Nothing, has entailed getting three blog entries done this morning (end of Birr, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Madrid - and for all I'd already typed the text), making vague attempts at feeding people, reading my book and checking the weather on the net to confirm that I have completly mucked up and it will be really hot till we leave Morocco..... (but better that than rain and cold). Now I thought I'd write up Granada. Its mid-afternoon, very hot outside and our apartment, like all those around us, does not have an outdoor area but does have wide window things that open. Ken has yet to emerge from the bedroom although he has been delivered coffee, scones and wine. He ... read more
