So did you find anywhere in NZ that makes better chips and gravy? We enjoy your writing. We will be doing almost the same route as you in October, except in reverse order; flying into Christchurch from Sydney and then dropping the rental car off in Auckland. Any idea what weather to expect then? What are the gas prices?
Hi thanks for your kind message. It is much appreciated. October will be coming into spring so should be pretty nice and then come december/ january you will be into the thick of summer. Our van was diesel and it cost about $1.6/litre but you have to pay a diesel tax ontop of that at the post office. It works out cheeper than petrol though. New Zealand is brilliant. Everything is free to do in all the national parks and all the tracks are so well maintained. I hope you enjoy your trip as much as we did.
If you're interested in reading some more stuff i'm going to upload another post this afternoon.

woolly hats and sunglasses... people wearing woolly hats in 30+ degrees really annoy us, the same goes for people who wear scarves in 30+ degrees...seriously there is no need. We also want to slap people who wear sunglasses indoors or at night, it's not gangsta they just look stupid!
Anyway, have you managed to find any decent chips and gravy yet? We've had no luck in Asia, then again nowhere does proper chips and gravy like British chippies, so we think we are on a fruitless quest. Your blog brought back some good memories of NZ...you are right the people are so friendly and the radio stations are terrible!
Exactly! "sit on their laptops or iPads for about 20 hours a day and you can’t even get a simple hello out of them. What’s the point in going travelling (holiday) when you don’t leave the hostel". Glad this doesn't just bug the shit out of me.
Me and the wife have gone travelling for a year. We're from Yorkshire, England. It’s our mission to travel the world to see if there is anywhere that does better chips and gravy than our local chippy. First stop Argentina, last stop Bangkok and a whole lot of gubbins in between.... full info
