On Sunday afternoon/night, Mitch and I hiked Volcan Pacaya. Our advice-don't do it at night! There were cute little kids when we got out of the shuttle that were selling home made walking sticks for 5Q which we returned at the end of the hike. The hike was about two hours up, the last half hour being straight up a steep slope covered in volcanic rock which is very sharp! There is a line where suddenly you walk out of the jungle and you are in an area that looks like Mordor (LOTR). It was extra ominous because there was a thunder and lightening storm the whole time we were up there and tons of fog. At the top, we actually saw lava, which was sweet! It was pouring out of this random looking rock and it ... read more

Hello Everybody! This week passed quickly with lots of Spanish school. Mitch and I play lots of spanish scrabble with our teachers... which we need to cut back on so we learn more grammar... I reached for the toilet paper in our bathroom at the house and there was a HUGE SPIDER ON IT right in front of my face!!! it was at least twice as big as the biggest house spider I ever saw in Canada and i freaked out and threw the toilet paper across the room and screamed at Mitch to step on it... I don't do well with big spiders. ... read more

In the school, there is a big court yard with a massive garden which includes avodaco tree, orange tree, lima *citrus fruit like lime but sweeter. tree, soo many colourful flowers and ferns and old brick walls and floors it's verrry pretty. i keep getting bitten by mosquitos though! The house is cool too you can sit and do homework on the roof overlooking the city with a perfect view of the massive yellow cathedral. Unfortunately it is always very noisy in the house with such a big family living ... read more

Hey guys!! I'm in Antigua and it is friggin beautiful!!! Mitch and I are at the McDonald's and it is all that it was said to be... gardens, fountain and a view of ruins and a volcano! Every street here is colourful and it was hot and sunny today. The flight was alright except at the LA airport... what a mess! That place is huge and we were repeatedly told the wrong directions so after about 2 hours and a lot of walking, we finally found our flight aaaand then waited another 3 hours. That was the only difficult thing, since then customs was simple and our ride was waiting for us. He brought us to our home stay which is very nice. The house is sweet, we have our own private bathroom and they are ... read more
