Train Wuhan Yueyang I really don't remember a lot about the trip. That was eight years and three countries ago. We currently live in Peru after a few more years in China and then Thailand. I do remember that the hard seats are fine for trips that are no more than two or three hours long but anything longer than that, First Class and soft seats are going to be more comfortable. We basically picked up the bike and headed back to Wuhan. Didn't spend a lot of time in the area.
Cosy convenient safe flat free for rent Hi anyone interested in renting a flat in wuhan? Feel free to contact me by 18971268473 either by English or Chinese. I m personally landlord, can kindly offer some helps if u r new here.
Over-nighter Makes me lonesome for crazy hazy China. I also really miss the great food, although I would pass on the bull penis. Everything else sounds okay but a person has to draw the line somewhere!
Will you be coming to Princeton or just Vancouver? Have a wonderful summer guys!
?? Why on earth would you want to come back here - it will be so boring compared to your life there!!
Enjoy your family visit none-the-less!
We are headed to Wyoming for a mini reunion of the Great American Horse Race gang. It will be the first time I have ever seen Yellowstone park and Ol' Faithful. I am looking forward to it.
Princeton in China Steve,,
It is wonderful to see these photos and your blog. That was great to see the Huycks and Wongs. Merrilyn will have lots of inspiration for her future arts projects. I am sure Paul will be bubbling over with stories
Everytime TV has news of China we think of you two there. And we envy your adventures.
I am plugging along on my column and second book. Wish you were here with your expertise.
Keep well and happy
John
Working English or gigging in Wuhan The easiest way to get into China, as far as I can see, is to obtain a job as an ESL teacher. Once you are here, there are opportunities to earn a bit of extra money with your music. There are a a few clubs that will pay for gigs and there are audiences of foreigners here that want to see live entertainment. Live foreign music increases the clubs' foreign clientele and provides a place for musicians to perform. It is a win-win situation.
Teaching English or gigging in Wuhan. Hi! Thank you for the info. best yet. I have hunted around a bit and this is definitely the best. My Concern... I have met a really nice lady, albeit on the net, who lives in Wuhan and I really want to visit with a view to living there. As I have not a lot of money I am wondering if I might supplement this with my music or teaching in some capacity. I have been a vocalist/pianist/organist for a long time. I hesitate to call myself a pianist as I normally only use this for singing. I can also do 1 hour shows with backing tracks. Mostly my act is swing or ballads but I can sing in Italian, Spanish .French and Tagalog. I am beginning to sing Mandarin at the moment. I don't really want to ask my girl-friend too closely because I don't want to appear cheap or maybe stingy. It is a case of necessity. How much do I need to stay there indefinitely/ Very ,very grateful for any help anyone could give me. I can supply tapes or C.ds if anyone interested to listen.
Haven't tasted it yet! No, we haven't tried the durian yet but have enjoyed lots of other "mystery" fruits. lol We have had a bunch of local fruit placed in our room a couple of times but I have no idea what any of it is called!
Verrrry nice! You both look terrific - the new life style is definitely agreeing with you. Obviously not missing Canadian winters!! Although I had a lovely xc-ski today at China Ridge. The weather here has been quite "balmy" at +5C not like the old days of -25C.
Wish you both all the best for 2010
Food Hey Nancy and Steve, I noticed the durian in photograph 29. Have you had the pleasure of enjoying this delicacy yet? Quite nice here, -3 this morning and no new snow, about a foot on the ground. Ken
Wow! Sure looks like you two have figured out how to have the good life! You both look terrific! No sunbathing here, but it's warmer than usual.
Cheers from Canada and Paul and Merrilyn!
Too Bad! It's too bad you guys have to rough it so much!! I mean spending all that boring time holidaying when you could be back home Having back to back parties all the time - it must be terribly boring!! :-)

After teaching many years in Canada, I moved to China in 2007 for a different experience. Teaching a few more years, and seeing a bit more of the world at the same time, seemed like a better idea than retiring. I am now in my fourth year at Wuhan Maple Leaf International School where I teach Mathematics and am head of the Math Department. An avid motorcyclist (over 60, 000km of North American road trips during the last five summers), I now ride a Chang Jiang 750cc sidecar bike here in Wuhan. This blog was started to keep our friends and family informed about our adventures. I hope anyone ... full info
