Thursday, May 28 This was a pretty busy week for me. I started out by going to Liverpool on Sunday, coming back Wednesday, and then on Thursday I had made reservations to go to an outdoor adventure place called Go Ape. For Wednesday, May 27, I had booked a tour of John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s childhood homes. I booked it for 10:00 am, and the price was 16 pounds. You can’t visit the homes without booking a tour through the National Trust, who owns both of them. Turns out, Yoko Ono bought John’s childhood home a while back and donated it to the National Trust. Apparently Paul McCartney has not been back to his home, which he moved into when he was about 13. So on Tuesday, May 26 the first thing I did was go to McDonald’s. I just got a double cheeseburger and fruit. Then I headed off for the train station, where I attempted to buy that map from a machine again. It worked this time. Inside of the station are little shops, so I went to Sainsbury’s there (which is almost like a Tesco, but bigger, and I think they have more regular, non-food items). On Monday, May 25, I woke up and headed over to the Maritime Museum- the second one I had been to in the UK so far! I had also been to the one in Greenwich 4 days before this. I knew there were 2 presentations I wanted to see at the museum: one was concerning the facts and myths about the Titanic, and the other was a sort of dramatization of what it was like to be one particular guy on the Titanic. So on Sunday, May 24, I went to Liverpool! Originally, I had planned on going on May 25, but before I left for England, I found out that there were some events going on at the Maritime Museum in Liverpool on May 25 that I wanted to go to. Of course, I called to confirm my hostels before I left the U.S., so when I did, I asked them how to go about canceling that last night (when I would already be in Liverpool). What I did on Saturday, May 23, 2009: The first thing I did was head off to Portobello Road market. I have known about this market for a good while now, since I started doing research on visiting London. It takes place on weekends, maybe even mainly Saturday actually. I knew I wanted to go there, and it wasn’t too far from the hostel either. It was a long road that was lined with tables and tents and people selling various goods. My Day Friday, May 22, 2009 Whew, I’ve been meaning to catch up with my blog! It’s hard, though, because it takes me a long time to write and upload pictures. Plus, I have to go to McDonald’s in order to use the free internet. SO, on Friday, May 22 at almost noon, I walked on over to Tesco Express. There’s lots of these around; they’re like little convenience/grocery stores. I bought a sandwich, some drinks, and a little plastic container of fruit. My day May 21, 2009- Thursday So Thursday didn’t go exactly as I had originally planned. I had wanted to go see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace with a “London walks” group. Remember, I had those 3 free walks I could do since I bought the Original Tour Bus pass. However, I didn’t get everything ready/done in time. So on Wednesday, May 20, I woke up and took a shower…Me waking up and getting started later with my day was becoming a habit, and so was the fact that often it would only be Arsim (my little eastern European “friend”) and I left in the whole room. He would actually sleep later than me, but by the time I was about to leave, he’d wake up and be like, “Oh, you’re still here?” We talked for a few minutes…it seems like every time I talk to him in the mornings, it’s when I’m looking for something. My day: May 19, 2009- Tuesday So Tuesday morning, after getting a lot of sleep, I woke up just whenever (didn’t have an operating alarm clock). I hadn’t eaten or had anything to drink for more than 24 hours…which never happens with me! Sometimes I pretty much eat around the clock. Haha. However, my body does pretty well with not eating. If I get hungry, and then if I don’t get a chance to eat (rarely), the hunger just goes away. I don’t get a headache or anything. I would be good on the show Survivor in that way!
