I am 62 years old and started riding Harley's about ten years ago and have gotten more vacation time riding in these past few years than any other time. We have been to Adirondack, Maine, Pennsylvania, West Virginia on rte 39, the Colorado Rockies, Black Hills, and numerous other places. Now I am going to try my hand at writing a blog and see how it turns out. The first blog ride is with several other guys that work at Com Ed the power company. Five us are lineman. The second ride is out to Sturgis SD and back to northern Illinois by myself.

We left Rockford under a bright clear, blue, cool, sky and after a 6 hour ride we rolled into O'Fallon, Il on a hot, muggy, partly cloudy afternoon. Got a little rain south of Springfield, though not enough to warrant a rain suit. That would have made it a lot more uncomfortable with that on. Didn't take any pictures on the way down since most people see flat ground in Illinois. Not remarkable. We found the host hotel across the interstate from our hotel. That's handy.... read more

It's 11:30 pm and almost packed. Bev and I are getting ready to head to the Illinois HOG Rally near St. Louis, Mo. Have checked Yelp website for a couple of places to eat. Looks promising. Rain in the forecast, that is not unusual in the midwest. Maybe we will get lucky and dodge the real soaker ones. Leaving in the morning and have a reservation in O'Fallon, Il. Scott AFB is nearby and maybe will take a ride over that way. Flat land here we come.... read more

Thursday, the first day of the trip. There are nine of us, eight of us work for ComEd, all of us are lineman. Breakfast in Byron and then the rules of the road are given out. Pretty easy rules, still don’t know where we are riding to other than Missouri. Down Rte 2 to Dixon which is always scenic along the Rock River. At Dixon it’s Rte26 to Rte US 34 to Burlington, Ia. Today I rode as sweep meaning the tail guy to help out bikes with problems. A problem arose in Wyanet. One of the guy’s engine quit running right now. Turns out he put new LED lamps in the night before and the compensators were laying next to the power module under the seat and shorted out the fuel injection wiring. After a ... read more

So, it is Tuesday afternoon and a day and a half away from starting on the motorcyle ride. I get a text message, saying “it is bad weather in Minnesota, it being to cold (60’s) and rain”. Not conducive to good riding. I believe we are going south towards Missouri. Oh well, I will adjust to the new route. My plan is to break off from the group and head to Sturgis, South Dakota when the distance becomes too far east. I have to start to pack and put everything I need in some kind of order. Rain suit in a side bag, First Aid kit handy, flashlight for sure it’s handier. Pack a bike bag and then an extra for the tour pack and make sure the helmet is with me Wednesday stayed busy all ... read more

It is a little more than a week before a different adventure awaits. So much to do, a different camera to get, so many choices, a net book to purchase or there won't be a blog to write to. Then there is the matter that this will be done on a Harley; riding with up to eight other guys from northern Illinois. All of them being much younger than I.... read more
