After leaving DC, we stopped in Richmond, VA for a less touristy experience, viewing the Capitol. After, on our way to Lexington, SC, we had a car accident right near the North Carolina border, leaving us car-less, and giving Can an experience that even a number of Americans will never have. We arrived back in Syracuse on Thursday night, after a brief stop in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to view the old battlegrounds and burial sites. Since we weren't able to have our camping experience, yet, we set up the tent in Katy's backyard and have been sleeping there ever since. Yesterday, we went to the Syracuse Greek Festival, where Katy was educated on how the dances, food, and culture that she had been led to believe is Greek...is actually Turkish! After we took a walk around Green ... read more

PHOTOS COMING SOON :) The trip into Philadelphia was pretty quick and relatively painless, minus the fact that Katy drove the last stretch and city driving isnt really her forte. We parked in the trendy old city area, close to a famous Philly cheesesteak place listed in our guidebook. The sandwich was amazing and while we were meeting we met a German couple from Berlin who likely felt a bit more welcome with our beloved German Turk greeting them and offering to take their photo. After we wandered to the visitor center and made a quick tour of the historical sites, missing quite a few because of our arrival time. We walked down to the pier, finding a small Irish memorial along the time, and spent some time relaxing there and taking photos before going back ... read more

PHOTOS COMING SOON :).... Apparently we have a blog following, that includes more than our parents...so we will try and make this a bit more interesting now :).... On Friday, the weather was absolutely miserable...We made it into Manhatten pretty late and decided to make it more of a shopping adventure to escape the pouring rain. After a stop in the Barnes in Noble in Union Square, where we collected NYC tourist books and sat in between shelves to decide our next moves, we walked to various vintage clothing stores on different parts of town. Despite a new fashion consciousness, that includes shraw hats of various shapes and styles, Can was unable to find an old-school outfit in these overpriced boutiques. After 2 or 3 disappointing stores, and a short stop at a posh cafe for ... read more

Hartford, CT.; New Haven, CT We left early Wednesday morning for NYC, driving through Hartford, CT for a quick coffee and New Haven, CT to see Yale campus. We werent entirely impressed by either city, so made the trips really short. Can looked for local attractions after leaving New Haven, which brought us to a really picturesque small park on a pond in Massachusetts. We got off the highway here and took a small break to walk around and enjoy it, before getting back on the road for NYC. Neither of us felt very healthy by the time we reached the city, so we settled in Queens with Katy's friend Yohanka and stayed in for the night. NEW YORK CITY We took the train into Manhatten early on Thursday, starting off in Chinatown and Little ... read more

Cambridge and Boston, MA We arrived in Watertown, MA, right outside of Boston on Sunday night to stay with Cihan, Can’s cousin. That night, we took a short drive into Cambridge to look at Harvard University campus and had an all you can eat dinner at Fire and Ice restaurant, escaping the pouring rain that began as we wandered through the small town. After, Can got a hold of his friend Sena, whom he hadnt seen in about 8 years, and we made our way to her flat in Cambridge so they could catch up. After, she gave us a nighttime driving tour of Boston by car. *The weather cleared up enough the next day for a full day of sightseeing…We started by attempting the Freedom Trail, a red line running through central Boston to ... read more

Upstate NY *Places Visited / Gezdigimiz yerler: *Geneva, NY: Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and various Wineries; *Trumansberg, NY: Taughannock Falls State Park We arrived in the USA on Saturday night after traveling all day. We had a five hour layover in JFK Airport before arriving in Syracuse at around 9:00PM, but luckily were met by Katy's friends to have lunch and pass the time. On Sunday morning, Can had his first American breakfast, full of sugar :), waffles and sausages and then explored downtown Syracuse and some of the surrounding area. On Monday, we took a day trip to Geneva and Trumansberg New York, wine tasting and discovering some of upstate New York's natural wonders at Taughannock Falls State Park. We ate lunch there, near the gorges and took about an hour walk, barefoot, ... read more
