it has been a Sunday... early on, streets of Vientiane were quite underwhelmed. then the heat, 32plus degrees, slipped a little in the late afternoon and the sun was hazed out by clouds, but still able to cast quiet speaking shadows and a soft becalming light, though much seems calm anyway in Laos... well, not the market / festival that extroverts itself every night along Th Fa Ngum and the Promenade, alongside the Mekong River... the booming music, the colour, the gentle bustle, the selling, the smells of barbecued meats, fish and vegetables, the dodgem car screams, announcements over microphones to buy, enter, have a go... it stretches for kilometres and the Lao people, young, old and families, well probably not the really old, seem to love it and frequent in great, great volumes... earlier
