don't expect pictures of Venice
I would actually enjoy seeing pictures of Venice and boring Western Europe. Some people still make it a special experience e.g. seeing it by bicycle, experimenting with wildcamping etc. You might find yourself surprised by people's hospitality and openness (speaking by experience).

Amazing
Bedreddin, well wishes man, i happen to stumble upon your blog quite accidentally, and i must say its inspiring, please allow me to quote the best line of all 59 blogs. "...they are wage-slaves and must sell their only possession (their time) in order to live." This is so true and speaks so much to what is so wrong with so many things these days; yet this is the way it is. I hope your adventures continue and your blog perhaps starts up again, it was a trip to read.

Fall of Constantinople
"Edirne was the Ottoman capital prior to the liberation of Istanbul, and home to many mosques and other historical entities." I do hope you mean "liberation" ironically. Constantinople (today called Istanbul) was actually conquered by the Ottomans in 1453 A.D. not "liberated", having belonged until then to other peoples (principally Greeks) since it was first founded by Greeks from Megara in 677 B.C. (it was then called Byzantium).

To understand you have to feel.
Ok first of all the green paste is called QASIL and is purely a herb based exfoliate, natural and used to cleanse, much like the face-mask bought on the high-street but natural, its thousands of years old tradition also used in many arab countries. Secondly how can you expect foreigners to get anything but a hostile reception in Somalia after the horror they had inflicted on us. Somalis dont trust any country or even their own people, for many Somalis its hard to differentiate between tourists and intruders. They are survivors, strong and proud. My first time visiting Somalia was with my family and being a Somali I still felt discriminated against, but it is understandable and enjoyed my time there. Hope to return soon. Hope my country will be able to heal its wounds before the vultures take it all.

clearly too young and misinformed
I'm not even certain that my comments are worth my time. But really, you two are far too young to be traveling somewhere like Ethiopia, somewhere other than Europe is what I actually mean. I mean 'too young' maturity wise, and not age wise. I'm probably your age. Anyhow, I can honestly say there is no point in you two traveling the way you do. Two young white guys, not a care in the world and traveling simply for adventure's sake...taking about how cute chicks are or are not, how difficult it was not to shower for 6 days or how lazy Ethiopians are not to be farming the oh so green the land. It's not worth my time to get into how difficult the land and weather are, my family are farmers...and yes I'm Ethiopian. Your ignorance and arrogance is run of the mill. If you had a bit of historic insight, which you clearly don't, you'd be better able to connect the dots...yes, even the fact that people *gasp* beg tourists far richer than themselves for money. Your lack of sympathy is sad, and if you are lucky enough, it will be something you will look back on with shame. Young white western boys on a joy ride. Pathetic level of insight, disguised as bravado and wit. How adventurous of you two...wow, so utterly and completely impressed. Hope your hardened souls made it worth the ride.

will never change their color.
''Occasionally women can be seen hanging around, faces covered by some green paste (the nature of which I have been unable to determine) but is presumably to make their skin lighter'' let me to correct you. the thing you have mentioned in your article, ' faces covered by some green paste'. this is called Qasiil, if it is green or Huruud 'yellow' if it is yellow, and basically women uses this to make their skin smooth, or soft. We are somalis, we will never change our color just because to look white. people who were slaved suffers such illness, but we not. I think you need to search about the word Somali, just google it. you are still virgin about somalis and their value.

im a bit late but what a wonderful read lol. a little bit contraversial, maybe your getting negetive feed back and comments because of somali's who live in jijiga and somaliland. iv been to hargaysa and jijiga and i was thare when the bombing actually happend so i see what you mean. somali's are traditionaly suspicious about strangers of white mostly but other colours too. they'r are also extrememly proud haughty and uneducated people. rather like americans except for the latter....i think. the average somali has the idea that being somali gives you the power to tell people whats right and wrong....again american. i, being a somali but raised in london find somalis quite interesting people to talk to and it would have been nice to see you in either hargaysa and/or jijiga where i could possably shed some light on the whys and the whats that baffled you and x so. kind regards Mohamed

Aphrodite of Cyprus is Greek
The comment No Greeks here is disgusting!!!!! What happened to the Greeks of Anatolia? Yes, genocide!!!!! The barbaric Turks forced them off their land. If they refused the were slaughtered!!!! We Greeks were not the only ones who were ethnically cleansed. The Armenians, Assyrians, the Georgians and the Kurds all faced Turkish barbarism. We know how much blood Turks have on their hands. Even their Quran says if you steal your hands must be cut off. Well, every Turk should have not only their hands but feet as well cut off for the highway robbery of stealing our lands. Curse the Turkish Barbarian government. All Turks have the obligation to return our lands and return to their homeland in Turkmenistan.

Aphrodite of Cyprus is Greek
I do believe that Turks belong and have every right to have their own religion, and homeland. The only problem is that so call Modern Turkey is not their country. The Turks come from Turkmenistan. That is their country and I am gun hole for them to return to their motherland with open arms. Since, many people of Afghanistan left maybe they could invade Afghanistan their neighbor and get out of our island of Cyprus. Turks could destroy the Taliban and the world would be at peace. Great Idea. Cyprus will finally be freed. Constantinople, Symrna, and the rest of Anatolia be freed. The Kurds will finally have a homeland. The Turks could continue to murder the Taliban. The Taliban would focus on killing the Turks and the Turks could kill and rape the Afghan women and children.

The honest truth there are no Turkish Cypriots. Turkish Cypriots were Greek Catholics forced by the Barbarian Turkish invaders to convert to Islam or be killed. Therefore, Turkey has no rights on this Greek island, Cyprus. The sooner they realize this the sooner there will be peace not only on this Greek island but the rest of the world. Death the evil Turkish empire.
