Ignorant and badly article Thanks for your article that many people are not seen you don't known what's going in somaliland so don't forget that break heart of the most population of the somaliland
Loving the photos As one respondent mentioned, don't care about the politics. Would love to see the people at least get enough to eat. Their "religion" doesn't seem to have done them any good whatsoever, although I do agree there is a lot of corruption in the West, but I think this is a human condition, not merely a function of the West. If they had more money, their society would have it's own corruption.
amazing article wow, what a beautiful blog you have here. It was amazing reading your experience,it seems like you had a lot of fun. Yemen is also my home county

i really liked your blog it was really good have you seen the monsoon hotel?,its great! people really under-estimate somaliland(and they think its somalia)
A dangerous and uncertain place It is impossible to judge people from distance. The paradox within this blog is that it paint a picture of the people of a country without knowing them deeply and closely. This is just like judging a book by its cover without reading the content. If you are of different colour, you would be stared at wherever you go, whether it is a western country or easter one. I live in a western country and I do not make any judgement on people who might have stared at me because of curiouty. If you end up in a country where your creed have never landed, it is not a strange phenomenon that people would be interested on your skin, color, and they way of talking. A fellow country man who ended up in Norway more than 30 years ago told me that he turned the strange curiosity into positive experience by befriending local people. I do not deny that there would always be some narrow-minded people that may be a risk to your safety. However, it would require skill and wisdom to turn animousity into friendship. Please do not judge a nation by words and stares you hear and meet on street. I would loved you have stayed long in this country and studied the culture, religion, way of living of these people and told us more constructive story. Please do not judge a book by the cover. Read it and digest it and know it from inside.
Freedom from Tyranny Turks have no rights to Asia Minor or the Greek island of Cyprus. I just read the Anti-Christ will be a Turk. The "true" God will destroy him and the false prophet Mohammad. Then the world will see true peace. Zito to Ethos!

Selam bedreddin, you don't know me and I don't know you, but I'm a Dutch guy of Syrian Arab descent who has been reading your blog for quite a while now. It makes for a really interesting read!
The freedom fighter you encountered probably mentioned Deir Ezzour because that's where Talaat Pasha intented to expel the Armenians to, which resulted in the forced exodus of the Armenians. The hardships they faced while in transit to Deir Ezzour resulted in a lot of dead Armenian civilians. You probably knew this already, but I couldn't figure from your blog.
And since I'm writing this comment I might as well pose a question; what do Armenians think about you calling their country Middle Eastern? I've had numerous encounters with Armenians and while Syrian and Iraqi Armenians were positive about Arabs, Russian and Hayrenadartser (not sure whether I got the spelling right, it means Armenians from Armenia proper if I recall correctly) were not quite fond of us. So, would Armenians refer to themselves as belonging to the ME or would they call themselves European? Or Russian?
When will Turks return home to Turkmenistan? Why is it important for the evil Turkish government to destroy everyone's country? Turks have the right to live their lives in their own land: Turkmenistan. The have absolutely no rights on Cyprus, Greece, Aegean, Greece, Anatolia, Greece, Armenia, Assyria, Georgia, Kurdistan and Germany. When will they stop dreaming of conquering the world and return home? The Jewish people return to their home after 2000 years. What is 300 years? The Turks of Turkmenistan want all the Turks to return and live together as one. This is the only just solution for everyone consider. Don't you agree. No more blood and death just the return of Turkish people to their homeland, Turkmenistan.
i love this! This picture captivates the culture and community, the love that's being shared by the mother to those children, her offspring and future.( all boy's too)and the way she is holding the lamb, with such care like it is her baby.just an assumtion, the body language does not display teerorist.Well other than the knife in the little boys pants, and that kind of looks planted there, by the way he is looking at the person to the right, of the camara guy-woman!!!!But then again that could be his form of protection and way to gain food to eat.Im pretty sure they don't have mcdonalds.:) thats just my interpretation.
My trip began (July 19, 2004) as a 14-month leave of absence from my job, with the intention of "seeing the world", and a bunch of unrealistic ideas of what can be accomplished in a year. Turns out a year isn't as long as it seems, so I've recently quit my job (yeay!) to become a full-time traveler. Until, that is, I run out of money or decide I'm ready to rejoin the ratrace.
In the meantime, I'm trying to blog at least once a month from the countries I'm visiting. I'm not interested in Western Europe, so don't expect pictures of Venice here. My blogs are basically my impressions of pla... full info
