Today we woke up to another beautiful sunny morning and had breakfast on the river before heading out by ferry to the temple of dawn. Wat Arun built in traditional Ayutthayan style is a representation of Mount Meru, home of the gods in khmer mythology. Statues of mythical figures protect buddha as he is depicted in four stages of his life; at birth, meditating, giving his first sermon and entering nirvana. The buildings around the wat are decorated with china. It was pretty amazing. There were a ton of thai kids there on a school trip practices english, they kept coming up to us to ask our names and where we came from. After the temple of dawn we went over to kho san road. A notorious backpackers haunt. Lots of cheap guesthouses, cafes, clothing, travel ... read more

I just realized the abbreviations for Bangkok and Brooklyn are the same. BK. We took the sheraton ferry accross the river and then the skytrain over to the Jim Thompson House Museum. The tour of the museum wasn't particularly informative about his life but did explain the thai achritecture of his home and his collection of art work . Once out of the museum we decided to try and take a klong boat as the thais do. The first came in and many people quickly hopped on and off not sure what was ... read more

Everywhere tourists are know as farang or foriegner, Well, Today, our first full day in Bangkok, We got up early and enjoyed breakfast on the banks of The Chao Phraya river before heading off on our tour of Wat Phra Kaeo and The Royal Palace (Emerald Buddha). Wat Phra Kaeo is Thailand's most sacred site and was built as the private royal temple in 1785. The Grand Palace is now only used for state functions as The King wanted the site open to the public and now lives Chitrlada Palace in Dusit. The Emerald Buddha is actually a jadeite Buddha and is a hugely sacred figure renowned for it's supposedly miraculous powers although it hasn't cured my slight retardation as of yet. It was great to see how holy Buddhists believe the site is; we made ... read more

We FINALLY made it. Well after 27 hours on the plane and 3 hours in Taipai, China, we have arrived in Thailand and our 3 month journey begins. A few facts: Thailand and SouthEast Asia is 12 hours ahead of NY. The currrency is the Thai Baht. One US dollar gets 35.5 Bahts. The population consists of 85% Thai and about 15% Chinese descent. you can't drink the water. Its hot, humid, crowded, smoggy, loud, smelly and crazy; Pretty much wonderful and we love it!! We got in around 3 and checked into our hotel, The Royal Orchid Sheraton. Which is located right on thye Chao Phyra River (Bangkoks major river and the fastest and most enjoyable means of transportation) showered off the many many hours of traveling and had a quick nap before setting off ... read more
