WOW I have read so many comments about people having problems in Philippines!!! I went there last year and I visited Manila and Banaue, just that. I had to leave the country because of a terrible typhoon. My objectives were accomplished but I wouldn´t like to go back. I know the country has plenty to offer but not for me.
Phew, quite an end to the story! The only time we had stuff stolen was on our way to Boracay (quite a feat considering how long we have been away!) and on our \'evidence\' the police caught the gang who did it. The police employed similar tactics as the police in San Jose, with the exception of an iron bar being involved. At one point they offered the iron bar to Neil to dispense his justice to the thieves (which he refused)! Luckily, the Malay police fast tracked the case and Neil was able to testify to a judge and see the gang prosecuted. We were also lucky in that Neil struck up a rapport with the police and got our phone and money back (which the police wanted to keep \'as a tip\').
Lesson learned - never keep the cards and cash together. Everything is now divided in several places whenever we travel anywhere!
Several types of trauma for you on that particular trip, which we hope you have recovered from!
Lucky You The fun of travelling...why Jennifer has the patience of a Saint...holidays with the Nomad...never a dull moment. Yet a story of "lucky you"...imagine how you'd feel if they took all your money...and your passport? Only your money and credit cards...lucky you!!!
A great collection With only a very few exceptions, these all have one thing in common - terrific smiles. And, as one of my sayings goes: Smile and the world smiles with you!
Sounds like fucking Victor Meldrew, not the reds fan that took it all in his stride. Get in touch mate, love hearing of your travels, Palolem\'s still tourist paradise, Patrick
I don’t believe it! You’d sound like Victor Meldrew too if you were a reds fan! I do vaguely remember those days of zero responsibility when I took it all in my stride; going, doing whatever, whenever, wherever…Speaking of Palolem, we do have two-months off this summer, which isn’t the season for Goa, I know. Though when our kids have mastered the Mandarin, I reckon we’ll need a year or so in India, or the Asian circuit more generally, to unwind.
that's a shame. i wish i can tell you "i hope the next entry will tell a better story"...but you got a spoiler right there. hmn. i've just been to a not so fun trip myself, somehow i feel you. i loved pagudpud...the photos are lovely...the kids are very charming. keep safe you guys. x
Shame I wish all our experiences travelling could be positive. The next entry may well tell a better story, though not neccesarily a a more postive one. I just hope the casual reader realizes that unfavourable situations do occur when travelling, anywhere, though these should not lead to sweeping generalizations or judgements of a people or their country. I'm sure even Ryan has a good side... atleast some of his fellow check in staff do;-)
so sorry to hear that you should call cebu pacific or send an email about that Ryan. Gorgeous photos by the way. I've never been to Pagudpud. You made it look like paradise
Pagudpud is a nice spot. Ryan neither works for Cebu Pacific nor Fillipino immigration, which is what makes the whole affair so frustrating. In his defence I don't doubt he could claim he was enforcing the rules.
he obviously knew you were red shite wait until you try to get back here ill have you sent to darkest jylland, nice to see youve stiil got the scouse humour i think i woulda given ryan a liverpool kiss
Must be derby day, eh!? I thought about giving Ryan a Liverpool kiss, I really did. But Singaporean law is notoriously draconian when it comes to such matters.
'The Ryan' We have also met a couple of 'Ryans' (using Ali's definition above!) in our time too. Not surprisingly they were usually affiliated in some way to a Filipino airline! Sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and jump through the hoops no matter how stupid the rules are! We are looking forward to reading your next blog which continues the story...we know what it's like being robbed of everything, left without a penny. Luckily we had Donna's parents with us when it happened (also in the Philippines!) and they could give us their bank card to use until we could get a replacement. Still a nightmare though!
Ryan's building quite a reputation off this... Perhaps he should think about setting up his own little airline. Ryan's Air, perhaps? Oh wait a minute...
I wouldn't have put up with Ryan either... but at 63 I've earned the right to be a curmudgeon as Linda calls me. Note to self...never fly Cebu Pacific. Anyway, I'm glad that David's recent blog of your time in Shanghai inspired you to continue the blogs of your trip from NA to China...although I can understand in this case, and following, why you would rather forget the whole thing. However, your Followers are waiting with anticipation to receive the bad news.
Putting up with Ryan. Had Ryan let us on the plane he would have dealt with one of the most charmingly beautiful families he's ever likely meet (Papa notwithstanding). Yet prod us with a stick, and Papa (and momma bear) can become rather tricky customers. Anyways, I should have the bad news to you by the end of the week...

Part Two Didn't Disappoint
Great blog. Big travel dilemma, where is my stuff less likely to be stolen from; me or my room?
