Hello, I am Georgian and I found this article very interesting, as it shows foreigner's first impressions of Georgia some years ago. Of course, as far as Georgia has been a part of the Soviet Union for a long time, its influence has severely disfigured our picturesque views and that is well shown in your topic.
Well, I suppose a lot of things have changed here since then. Batumi has been totally renewed and rebuilt. I can archly say it is one of the best seashores around the Black Sea (and not only). To make that more obvious for you, see pictures on batumi.ge (I cant link directly because it will be stripped).
About unwelcome meeting of Georgians, don't judge them so severely, they have come through hard days of everyday monotony. I'm sure their mood is quite different now, as all the conditions have improved - NO COMPARISON!!!
I laughed a lot about the hotel master, who said anything could be done with money. :)) That has been a trustworthy sign for every foreigner, if a man talks like that - he is Georgian!! Yet it was yesterday, a couple years ago, everyone thought enter the university, get rid of paying fines, get really ANYTHING for money. Some people of that ages even today think like that, though corruption has been unrooted and I'm proud I entered the university with high grades and not "high money".
I feel curious, what would you write if visited Georgia this days.

I'm inspired... It's been super hard for me to read and finish through people's blogs... but yours I just couldn't stop reading until the end... I agree with your opinion about photography... I think sometimes when we travel we seem to forget why we came there in the first place since we're too distracted with our cameras trying to capture that perfect picture of that perfect moment, either taking the pics for ourselves or to show others that hey I've been there too! When I lost my camera on my 3rd day in los Cabos I felt as if a part of me was missing... but what i realized then was out of all the places I've been so far... I've never appreciated anything as much as I appreciated Cabo only because I was free from my camera... I had nothing to nothing to click and snap... i didn't relied on a device to capture the moment cuz I have no choice... so I made sure to capture every single moment with my very own memory and hope it sticks there for a long time... hence I was able to come back home as a different person... I experienced their culture and lifestyle in my brief stay there... but then again.... I love taking pictures for the sole reason that one day I can look back and tell myself that I've been there... so I got a new one right away :D
