I love to travel.

North America » United States » Oregon » Portland April 25th 2013

Today our drive took us through some extremely beautiful country. We started in Boise and ended in Portland. Since we didn't get in until late, and we left again just after breakfast, we didn't get any Idaho potatoes on our way through. Our first stop of the day was the The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. We have a National Park pass which is great. We can stop somewhere and not feel obligated to spend enough time to try and feel like we got our money's worth out of the stop. Although the movie was too long for us, it was great to learn some additional history and misconceptions about the Oregon trail. It was interesting seeing many of the places that we had recently driven through on our trip this far. We enjoyed walking ... read more

North America » United States » Utah » Orem April 25th 2013

No pictures to go along with today. We started the morning by getting most of Scott's stuff packed up. We then killed time getting gas and the car washed while Scott played piano for a girl's singing final. After that, the massive mission shopping trip began. Wow, I didn't realize how much it cost to outfit a missionary. Because he will be walking a ton and he has always had problems with wearing cheap tennis shoes, we spent the most of getting him really good shoes. It was amazing how much we were able to accomplish in a single day. For dinner, we were joined by Dublin friends Patria, Matthew, and Hannah. Unfortunately, we couldn't reach Sarah and she missed dinner. It was a lot of fun to see old friends and spend time with them. ... read more

North America » United States » Idaho » Boise April 24th 2013

Since we were able to get so much done on Tuesday packing, plus, we were able to get a 2 bedroom suite at the TownePlace Suites if we could check out on Wednesday, we decided to leave Wednesday afternoon and head to Boise. This would also give us all day Thursday to explore the Columbia River Gorge area on our way from Boise to Portland. This morning, Ron picked up Scott and the rest of his stuff, then came back to the hotel to pack up all of our stuff. We killed some time in Provo, then headed to West Valley City to meet up with Cindy for dinner before heading to Boise. Tonight we stayed at another TownePlace Suites and were lucky enough to get an upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite. This one had ... read more

North America » United States » Utah » Orem April 22nd 2013

This morning when we woke up, the wind was howling and it was very gloomy looking outside. By the next time we looked out the window, it was snowing fairly hard and the wind was still blowing like crazy making visibility low. We had breakfast and packed up more quickly than we originally intended to try and get on the road as quickly as possible. A quick Internet search showed that I-80 had been closed 3 days earlier due to snow, but that as we traveled west, this snow seemed to diminish. The road conditions when we left the hotel were a bit icy and slushy. We decided we would take it slow and easy and deal with what came, when it came. We actually averaged close to 50 mph that first hour with conditions varying ... read more

North America » United States » Wyoming » Laramie April 21st 2013

We will only see two states today, but our drive is about equal to yesterday's drive. It was nice having the separate rooms and somewhere to spread out and really relax last night. Our drive today went really well. We were at our hotel by 4pm MT. There is quite a bit of snow still around on the sides of the roads. Tomorrow we get to Provo and will actually be in the same hotel for a couple of nights.... read more

North America » United States » Nebraska » Lincoln April 20th 2013

Today was pretty easy and tonight we are staying at a nice Residence Inn on the south side of Lincoln, NE. Although I had a Trip Tik by AAA printed before the trip, our Garmin suggested a different route today that was 50 miles shorter than the AAA route. We decided to go for it, and it worked out well. We spent a lot of the day on US 36 which did not have a lot of traffic, but was still 65 mph most of the way. This made it for a pleasant day of driving.... read more

North America » United States » Ohio » Dublin April 19th 2013

We started our trip around 3:15 pm, which was actually a little earlier than I was hoping to get out of town. Our trip will take us from Dublin to Provo to Port Hadlock, WA and more before heading back home. This first day was just a short easy drive after Ron got home from work. We were pleasantly surprised by a really yummy dinner at a KFC buffet, the employees were super friendly, but the service and cleanliness definitely needed some work. We saw quite a bit of flooding as we drove along. Unfortunately, since we were not making any stops, all of our pictures are blurry since we were trying to take them out of the windows while driving.... read more
