I am a retired teacher from North Carolina. I taught middle school math. Later I became a middle school counselor and a high school counselor. My husband also taught at the community college. We have very different backgrounds. He is a city boy from Boston and I'm a farm girl from Ohio.
We have two grown children and 6 small grandchildren. Currently we live on the outer banks of North Carolina. We have also bought a couple condos in Hawaii that we use for home exchanges and vacation rentals. Should you be interested in having a place to stay in Hawaii, we hope you will take a look at our website: http://alohafamilyproperties.webs.com/
I have traveled all over Europe, Mexico, USA, and Japan. I'm passionate about travel..........everywhere anytime. I was fortunate to travel to Japan as part of the American=Japanese Foundation and then later on a Fullbright-Hayes program. Each time we were setting up teacher exchanges to share methods and compare American and Japanese schools. Now I have so many friends there. It was wonderful to be able to see the country as a collegue.
I'm looking forward to learning from everyone here. Hopefully I'll have many more adventures.
Kahala Beach awaits My very favorite beach on Oahu is the Kahala beach. It is near Waikiki where most tourists stay. Home to Sea Quest, it has a wonderful pond for the dolphins, and a quiet, luxury ambience on the sand. Take bus 14 from Waikiki and you'll be there in minutes. Great place Here's also a good place to store photos: http://public.fotki.com/mariesatz/

... read moreThis past summer, my husband and I set out on a new journey in Italy. We landed in Milan and rented a car to head for parts unknown!! We decided that we would make it a road trip much like those we had taken in the USA. We headed toward the lake country and stopped whenever something seemed particularly beautiful. Obviously if you have traveled in this region, you know we had a lot of stops. We never knew when or where we would stay. We'd explore all day and come evening we will look for a sign along the side of the road for a bed. We often stayed in homes where the folks just rented out an extra bedroom for travelers.. Before leaving home my husband as very worried about this mode of travel.
