Hola from Andrew, Our first three weeks in Peru have gone by so fast. Most of this time was spent at the Reserva Atalaya near Chonta Chaka, Peru which is not likely to be found on any map. After three weeks there, it was hard to say goodbye to the place. We met people from all over the world that had come to volunteer at the place and learned so much about the local culture. Our days were filled with lots of hiking in the morning, followed by lunch made by our amazing cook Gloria. The afternoons were always different. Some days we went to find a part of the river to wade in or just relaxed with a book in the hammock. Other days we would walk to the nearby towns, sometimes for hours. After ... read more

Hola, It was a short 28 hours from when I left my house in Plymouth to when Meghan and I arrived at the Hotel Rosal in Cusco. Our travels started in the only way Meghan and I saw fit -- a stop at the Minnesota Zoo. I listened to Meghan give an awesome speech on what the zoo means to her and visited with some of my zoo friends at the groundbreaking of the new Heart of the Zoo. I kept getting chills during the speech but I am not sure if this was a result of people saying profound things or the malaria pills running through my body. Before We Go....

It is only a few short days before the two of us leave on our next adventure...PERU!! We will be there for about seven weeks with the main goal being to understand spectacled bears. We will be staying in the Manu Cloud Rainforest for the first three weeks, then traveling around Machu Pichu for a couple days, and finally up to the coastal dry forests of Northern Peru. In each place we will be on the look out for bears- be it in the trees, wading in the water, or chasing us down a path.
