Travel tips
Thanks Rach. Actually, I went to KL before from Singapore and was really not impressed, but everyone else I know who's been loved it. I think I'm going to try and go somewhere with my sister, if she's not too cool for me by then! x x

Head north through Singapore into Malaysia. It is one of the most wonderful countries I've ever visited and I cannot wait to visit it again one day. Go to Meleka/Malacca (lots of spellings) - it is so charming. xx

KTV
They don't usually wait until afterwards - if the girls are going to approach you they'll just come right on in as you are singing. Luckily, the manager's of the KTVs in our town (it's a small place) know that we aren't really into that so no-one bothers us...enjoy your time in China :)

KTV's, haha
Good title and story. New to the site and just checking on various China blogs for cool places to visit and cool people who are here. I am teaching English in Dongying for a year, if I make it. Lol. Did any of the girls try to sell themselves to you afterward....? Lol Cheers! Pete, from San Diego, CA.

apparently not...
apparently we didn't do the right thing, China style. By getting invovled we basically threatened the reputation of the school, and the safety of our Chinese colleagues. If this guy is important, or knows someone important, something very nasty could happen to one of out Chinese friends. So, lesson for next time, don't get involved, and if that is morally uncomfortable for us, get out of China. Sad times indeed

Diego Garcia
You are right Zahra.Declaring Diego Garcia as a Marine Park would preclude the British & US to surrender the island to its people.Anyway, you can't eat the seafood food in that zone as there are frequent nuclear tests that are being carried out in the ocean. The presence of high radiation level in that area would be a big issue to these people.Let's wait & see!

Shame
It has a long held belief of mine that the UK and USA had mistreated this people. A belief no more as now I KNOW they have been mistreated. No wonder our leaders want Wikileaks stopped. Against National Security my a**e! Shame on both our Governments

It's interesting to see behind your first impression of a city. I do need to go back to Shanghai, it was so long since I went with mum and Tarik I can't remember much, but I really, really, don't like the crowds and the noise so will most likely put it off. China is a really interesting place to be at the moment and I like seeing it the perspectives of Chinese people I know as well as the western media. Yes, Tarik had a good time in Qingdao and came back refreshed, which I think he needed. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip x

details
my uncle has a flat in shanghai and one in qingdao - both beautiful. It was interesting actually (but I forgot to put it in my blog) becuase we went with the housekeeper to one of her friend's houses and that was completely different - a cross between a studio apartment and a dormitory. It had two double beds (one folded into a couch) in a room half the size of my mum's lounge. There was a shared kitchen and presumably shared bathroom.

Great description
Hi Zahra, I'm lost as to where your relatives have houses.. Didn't appreciate there was one in Shanghai too. I wish I could have gone to Expo last week. I saw the blue man everywhere. When we arrived in China - at Shanghai - we had 5 hours to kill between flights. So we took the Mag Lev into Shanghai and went for a walk. I do hope the Chinese people appreciate what there government has done for them by way of infrastructure. I know the government has its faults, and the modern infrastructure does not extend into all areas. But where they have built it is astonishing. The UK will never see a train like the Mag Lev at Shanghai. (Typically a demonstration Mag Lev was built at Birmingham Airport in the 80s, but is now replaced by a bus!!) The high rise buildings, roads, and the quality of everything is amazing. There is going to be an interesting few years ahead for the Chinese people. I hope that the government isn't spending more than it is earning . . . It was a shame that I did not see you last week, it was great to see Tarik. What a man. God Bless you both, Alan xx
