Thanksgiving Abroad Always a Good Idea! I'm glad it all came together! I remember in Italy we had a potluck Thanksgiving in a packed apartment ( with teachers from our school too!) and it still stands out in my mind as one of the best Thanksgivings ever. We had a schmorgasboard of foods, but one teacher actually managed to find a turkey for us; never has it tasted so good. Luckily I wasn't hosting! We were merry and full of wine by the end of the night, walking home with full stomachs and rosy cheeks from laughter. It was a great reminder of home. I'm happy you decided to do it even if parties stress you out.
BEAUTIFUL STORY Once again thoroughly enjoyed reading yet another adventure of the coolest young person in Korea... I'm so proud of your perspective on life Hannah! Very proud. Love Lyd
Cool. It's great to hear that your students seem to have connected with you and that you aren't having any more behavior issues! I don't know about you but a teacher would be special if she engaged in a zombie fight with me. To be able to play with kids at any age is a huge strength Hannah! Your Halloween sounds so fun. Do you ever take pictures of your class?
Freakin' Out! The only kind of freak I do is go CONTROL FREAK in the classroom. And I do get together with colleagues - it's called a staff meeting.
I'd enjoy traveling to Korea to visit the schools and that hike looks amazing. Send regards from Mr. Smith to Mr. Smile.
Inner Child Gives you a Thumbs Up. What an awesome hike! I love how that guy was singing! I wonder why he did it. Was there something so beautiful about the place that he just had to break out in song? I love what nature does to people. In the midst of trees and valley views I feel as though the child I once was gets to come out and relish in the fresh air and my soul is at play. Wonderful trip Hannah!
good read Hey Hannah, I just have to tell you again, I adore reading your blog... I can so visualize being there, your writing is outstanding. Promise to keep it up. I am so very happy you took this journey and are learning so much about yourself and life in general. AND YOU ARE FUNNY AS HELL! Love you girl, Aunt Lyd
ocean enlightment There is something strange and wonderful about jumping into the cold ocean or the river on a cool rainy day or a lake surrounded by alpine snow!! I wish I could have jumped in too!! You do feel so alive!! I would like to hear more about the kind buddhist sharing watermelon with you as well! What an adventure, the bike ride sounds wonderful along the coastline. You are livin the life....meeting interesting and wonderful people along the way. ( the beatles playing on the bikes with bells ringing, what a sight!!) Love you and miss you!!
DANGER DANGER The bee and the apple part cracked me up! I could seriously imagine what this experience was like for you...I actually laughed out loud. Anywho...miss you! And keep the blogs coming. I check it daily. I'm a loser.
huge hula hoops! Wow, the weighted hula hoops look fun!! There is actually a hula hoop class here in town, but way to go South Korea to have them available in the park!! The coast looks beautiful and I'm thrilled to hear you got some wonderful hiking in!! I didn't realize there were so many lush mountain and beautiful coastal areas near you!! If I go swimming in the ocean will I be the only one!! I hope I get to visit you!!
Remember 5 stories of genre? I don't think I've ever known anyone who can party as hard as you can. This title refers to a 5 story dance club I went to in Prague that had a different style of music on each floor. We were running up and down the place, screaming like little girls it was SO fun, until I had it around 4 am ( but I was ready to leave around 1 or 2. 4am is just me being forcibly amenable to the group). You know what's funny? After I wrote my title for this message I remembered, " Hannah wasn't there!" but I was under the impression that you were. Haha. I didn't even know you abroad! Guess if there's a hard party happening, you are with me in spirit =) Glad you had fun. Working on a reply via FB.
spot-on hannah I re-read this blog and wasreally impressed by your thoughtfulness and perceptions about teaching!! You Will make a difference and how cool to have the girls talk about something they are interested in. I'm glad you are having good days too!! You are being refined like silver and gold, soon to be sparkling in reward to all your efforts....throw a bit of your drama and song in there....you'll get their attention!! great job!!!
I have Subscribed! Hannah,
I signed up to get an alert every time you write a new blog. I didn't even know you were in Korea until I did some facebook stalking of you and ended up here. You are one brave woman Hannah! Kids can be hard to deal with and it sounds like you are getting a taste. Are you teaching all grades? I loved reading the part about the girls talking fashion ( you are something of a fashion icon to me, did you know that?), and I agree with you that any English is good English. So cool to hear about what you are doing. Miss you! We need to catch up someday in the future.
marylsmi@yahoo.com You are such a sweet teacher, really!! How lucky these girls are to have you and your sense of humor and intuitive heart! Carry on, you have a wonderful opportunity to touch lives and make a difference! This was a great blog, love you!! P.S. Did you find out about the local hiking club in your town, I am curious to hear about the cloud suspension bridge and hike up to the famous mountain. Hey, what about the famous Ginseng Festival, did you take pictures of dancing? Love Marty

Hannah, Hannah Girl, you are wonderful. You crack me up! 6:15 a.m. after my run and I am reading your blogs and catching up cause I didn't know you had started blogging on your Korea trip... I LOL at the American Idol comment about Evan... so funny. Thoroughly enjoying your stories, keep 'em coming girl! GO FOR IT BANana!
I started this blog to keep my family and friends updated on my trip to Italy and Greece with my friend Melissa. I kept it going through my year of studying abroad in Uppsala, Sweden and the five months I worked in Melbourne, Australia. Now I'm off to Chungnam, South Korea to teach English at a middle school. This is where I will blather on about my daily life.
I have a serious case of wanderlust :)
