Geo: 45.442, 10.9955Hello all,Arrived at the city of Romeo and Giulietta and they are definitely celebrated here! Left our appartamento in Milano with more than enough time to get to the train station. We finally met the building manager, no inglese, and found out where/how to recycle our garbage (mandatory), he told us where to find a Tabacchi to buy our metro tickets (no, not there...) and confirmed the route to the closest metro station (we got that right) Very nice guy and it was fun to try out my baby Italiano... The station was very close so didn't have to push our bags too far on the cobblestones, but navigating extremely narrow streets with cars driving past pushing bags is always an adventure! I'm making it sound worse than it was actually, it was really ... read more

Geo: 45.4637, 9.18813Well, our last full day here and it was a good one. We're both pretty sore and tired, feet and backs are feeling like we're old people... Don't say it!Started off rather late as mentioned in the last post and got to the Duomo line for the roof around 12 ish? It was again at the 90-minute wait mark so we went to the Duomo Museum first, rented the audio guide for 6 euros and it was a good museum, pictures to follow. No lines here just walked right in, I guess they're all over in line for the roof top. The tickets to the Duomo were really worth the money I thought, for 15 euros you get into the Duomo, Archeological site, Museum, another small church, and get to ride the elevator to ... read more

Geo: 45.4637, 9.18813This has been such a blessing to be able to go on this trip with Wendy. We are so fortunate and I want everyone to know we do not take that for granted. God is so good to us as a couple, family, and nation. It is also an incredible blessing to have a mostly healthy back again. I had major back surgery in late May, and on faith, we booked this trip. We knew a lot of walking would be involved and I could not even consider such a thing the past couple years. But here I am, walking away. Per FitBit, Friday I had 15000 steps and Saturday I had 25000 steps. Not sure how many miles that is, but I'm sure well over 10 anyway. It is good to see how other ... read more

Geo: 45.4637, 9.18813Just a quick note, we made it fine yesterday. The great host picked us up from the airport, etc... Will fill in the details later. Where else in the world can you open your kitchen window and eat breakfast while hearing a man sing opera someplace outside? Also, love the church bells ringing at different times! Now a woman is joining in the singing, fantastico! We are about to leave to go see the famous "Last Supper" fresco painting by DaVinci. Loving our adventure after a decent nights sleep, was only up for about 2 hours from 12-2 am but that is par for the course, got up about 8:30 showered and had a good breakfast and we packed a lunch. The plan is to eat dinner out tonight and hopefully finally get a ... read more

Geo: 46.2741, -119.274Well, we're trying to get ready for our Northern Italy Adventure, haven't had a day yet in more than a week to just commit to this process but I guess that's life, right? So we'll keep running until we get on the plane and ready or not we'll be on our way! An interesting situation that I've had to work my controlling self through is the fact that I still do not have a place to stay when I go to language school. At least not as far as I've been told, communication (a bit of a conundrum here...) has been woefully lacking. I have been emailing the school and they have not been emailing me... still owe the final 80%, no address of a place to go to when I arrive. Called last ... read more

Geo: 10.64, -85.45The day started off at 4:45 am, actually woke up before then because of the 2 roosters crowing over and over during the night!! Had breakfast and out the door at 6:00 am. We drove to El Viejo Nature Preserve, it was a fantastic boat tour and cultural tour. We got there at 9:00 am were served pineapple and watermelon, juice, coffee, and tea. We drove to where the boats were waiting for us on the river, met our guide, "Kevin". He was fantastic and the whole tour was amazing, we saw so many crocodiles in the water, capuchin monkeys, iguanas, howler monkeys, egrets, turkey buzzards, stilt birds, no doubt other animals also but those are the ones I remember! Lots of fantastic photos and they'll tell the story better than I can. After ... read more

Geo: 9.81165, -85.3099It's our last full day here, we're planning on heading out for cinnamon rolls at the local B&B / Cafe right down the road, we'll see how that goes, we're moving pretty slow right now. Heard the howler monkeys this morning and the Brahma cows are back and forth between their foraging in the brush next to us and their walks on the beach. Every so often someone on a 4 wheeler comes along and herds them back our way... We see lots of 4 wheelers on the beach, sometimes people drive their trucks on it, lots of families having fun, yesterday there was an exercise class out there. Some guys have been coming to our little "pond" where the croc lives (it's been determined it is an American Crocodile) and using a clam ... read more

Geo: 9.81165, -85.3099When we first started seeing the ideas of things to do around here, one that caught my attention was the Ara Project, a McCaw Restoration Project. Only Paul and I chose to check it out, and we decided to go yesterday afternoon (Friday). You have to have reservations, so we had made them a few days ago, hoping that we could also have a nice sunset dinner at a resort up there. We were unable to get reservations there because it's high season and a holiday, but the adventure out was worth it anyway. The place is about a 30-minute drive away, down that same windy dirt road we've been doing all our travel on. BTW, we really appreciate living in a country that values paved roads. The entry to the Ara Project was ... read more
