Geo: 45.4368, 12.3217Hi all,Am back and will be finishing up this blog. My last internet connection that I did my observations on wasn't working so well and I wasn't even sure it had sent. So actually all of my observations didn't get put in. So I will finish that and then finish out the trip.Only one time did a waiter come back to our table and ask how we liked the meal. (have heard they don't want to rush you) He was the owner and actually made the pasta!! yummy! Most of the tourists go back to their tour boats in the evening, in Venice. So you have St. Marks Plaza fairly empty compared to during the day. Listening to the little orchestras there was a highlight! Some impromptu dancing was fun to watch.Rome was just coming ... read more

Geo: 41.8805, 12.1116I thought I would jot down some random observations that we've noticed on our trip. For those of you just finding this blog and not knowing me please don't send a nasty gram. These are not critiques, just observations :)! In Roma, our apartment had no oven, one bathroom, and only a loft for a bedroom that you had to stoop over in the whole time. Mauro our apt. manager said to buy that apt. would cost approx. 400,000 euros! Wow, good location though, I guess that's one of the reasons. Towels are thin cotton/linen "sheets" not fluffy towels as we know them. More like flour sack material.Tile everywhere!Potted plants, vines growing everywhere you can plant one, beautiful!!Toilets, find a big or small button usually on the wall. Usually, another button to stop the ... read more

Geo: 41.8805, 12.1116Hello all,I just figured out how to read your comments! Thanks, it was fun to hear from all of you! I have been telling my parents how much I wish all of my history kids could be here with me. I have lots of pictures for our History of the Middle Ages next year :)... Yesterday, I took the Secret Itineraries Tour of the Doges Palace, fascinating history of the government of Venice, very elaborate and lots of checks and balances. They even got rid of the torture chambers before the rest of Europe, very enlightened of them!! Actually spent 5 hours touring it, the feet were dying by the end of the 50 millionth stairway and when you are walking on marble and cement, I don t care how good your shoes are, ... read more

Geo: 41.8707, 12.4007Hello again! We successfully made it onto the correct train in Romes large train station. Wasn t hard at all as soon as we knew what we were doing! Had an interesting experience there, while I went to ask a question about what track we should be at (just to make sure) :). Mom and Dad were approached by a young man asking for their tickets and pointing to a baggage cart. They refused and he was still nicely asking when I came back and also refused to hand over my ticket. We then got on the train and lo and behold there he was too! He keptswitching seats and hiding in the women's bathroom trying to avoid the conductor as (just as we thought) he was hopping the train! That was the only experience ... read more

Geo: 45.6448, 12.3047Still here, will be leaving for Venice tomorrow morning bright and early! Mauro, the apt. manager will be picking us up at 6 am as our train will be leaving at 6:52. Should take us 41/2 hours on the Eurostar. We just had a wandering day through different neighborhoods. More relaxing than the other days so far. Visited the Rome Synagogue in the Jewish "Ghetto". Saw some very big Catholic churches in Trastevere, Trevi Fountain, Theatre of Marcellus, wandered the Ghetto also... enjoyed just watching how the people really live out in public (kids playing soccer in the piazzas, fun)... I think they are in small apartments so they all go out and live in the open pretty much..... people have been very friendly for the most part and helpful when asked for directions, ... read more
