Vince n Suz's Guestbook

one of Suz's favourite sayings also...
People free photos just takes that extra bit of time holding the camera still and waiting patiently, then making the most of the split second instant where the tourists decide to swap out and swap in for their poses :) All photos to date (except a few in Himalayas) are being taken on the iPhone 5. I've been extremely impressed with the usability and quality of these gadgets so far.

thai food is absolute heaven
Although we don't feel like we got completely to the heart of the balanced flavours on our trip as yet (spicy, sweet, slaty, sour)..... but the search happily and hungrily continues for sure.

Forget the bible and will....
Mate I'd be packing a hot air balloon and a bloody pilot if I was you! At 115kgs sir you are gonna need an extra set of legs. :) ha ha Nah, you'll be right mate. It's all mind over matter. Just expect it to be the hardest thing you have done in your life, and it will then at least not smash you for six when you set out on day one and think to yourself "what the hell am I doing here!?". Good luck buddy. Can't wait to hear about it and see some pics. Make sure you give me an update when you get back and send me some photos to my email address.

I heart Bangkok! (but I don't have the tshirt)
Your title happens to be Andrew's favourite smutty travel joke...He wrote it in one of our Thailand blogs, and one of our older readers replied that she didn't get it. Awkward much? hehehe. Loved your take on Bangkok, and how on earth did you manage to get so many people-free photos of the Grand Palace? :)

I can see you enjoyed the food!
Thai food is THE BEST in the whole wide world! I can't get enough of it

The mother mountain
Thanks Dave & Merry Jo! Yes it certainly was an adventure, thanks for your support and well wishes! I've just seen your latest blog from Ireland, and I must say it takes me back....so many fond memories of Dublin. I love your rough schedule, it sums the place up just perfectly, pub, pub, church, pub, pub, castle, pub, pub, pub, story telling, pub (music). Gotta love the Irish! Happy travels.

Jew's Harp
Hi mum, just getting back to our comments, a little delayed! Wow there you go, learn something new everyday! A Jews harp hey?! It was definitely pretty funny when you combined it with his crazy stomping around, fire burning and milk throwing. Hehe

Mate I was so keen to read your blog about the mountain. Fantastic detail. I\'ll probably read it 4 times. The night potty sounds like a real concern! As you know I\'m trekking Kilomanjaro (5800m) in about 8 weeks (at 115kgs) On the back of your experience I can\'t see how I\'m going to make it. Perhaps I should pack a bible and a will? All the best guys, sounds like the experience of a lifetime. Looking forward to reading the next adventure.

Jew's Harp
I think the hippy was playing a Jew Harp. The Jew's harp, also known as the jaw harp, mouth harp, Ozark harp, trump, or juice harp, is a lamellophone instrument, which is in the category of plucked idiophones: it consists of a flexible metal or bamboo tongue or reed attached to a frame. The tongue/reed is placed in the performer's mouth and plucked with the finger to produce a note. My Uncle Jim (Mum's brother) had one and I remember him playing it when I was growing up. Another exciting chapter, keep em coming. Love Liz xx

The mother mountain
She is a beauty and you've captured her essence! What a journey and a fantastic story. Realizing a dream is so important and we are proud of you. Great stuff that we could do this together as a team. What an experience.

Sensational
Congratulations on an amazing adventure. Must say the fisheye pics make one wonder the lower oxygen levels may have affected you more than you think!!!

Ha ha
:) Too true Dave, you may well be 100% right there. Perhaps we were a little delusional after all!

Part 5
I am truly amazed at the effort you both had to put in to achieve your dream. The way you supported each other shows that you are real soul mates. I am sure one day down the track you will retrace your steps and finally make the elusive EBC. It is reassuring for me to know you are both safe and sound and travelling the next part of your journey. Pat yourselves on the back; you both deserve it. xoxox

Thanks Liz. Yep, we were a great team! And continue to be... Not sure about heeding back one day, especially Suz :) Perhaps I'll trek it with my young adult child one day in the future.... give it 20-25 years or so.

I think you did great!
As I said before I think you should be proud of yourselves. I think you did very well and the destination is not what is important; yes, it would have been nice to say "I've been to the EBC" but so what? that won't change your life but pushing on while sick could really have a long term effect, so I think you took the right decision. And you can still say that you trek the Himalayas for 14 days anyway, which is no small feat! I'm looking forward to the next blog! x
4th April 2014

Thanks for the kind words
Cheers Denidax.... Yes you are right, we really would have only be heading to EBC to be able to say those few words. So not worth it in the end! Thanks for reading and for the comment.

Everest and Lhotse from Gokyo Ri

Well done guys!
Incredible shot! Congrats guys on reaching Gokyo Ri! I was really excited to see fellow bloggers trekking through EBC route as it just brought back some memories from last year. You definitely chose a more ambitious path making it all the way to Gokyo. I missed it unfortunately... Well... Maybe next time! And don't worry about not reaching EBC. Not much you can do when you get sick and it's definitely better to be safe than sorry, especially at this altitude. Looking forward to your next blogs! Happy travels!

Everest and Lhotse from Gokyo Ri

Ahh the memories...
Hi Anna, completely agree. I took quite a lot of inspiration for that EBC trip from your blog actually. Just looked incredible! Hope, wherever you are, travelling, or back home, that things are going well for you and Grant!

OMG Suz! A detached rib?!?!
Absolutely loving the blog guys! I can't believe Suz detached a rib! Such an amazing effort to make it as far as u did! Hope u guys are recovering & relaxing somewhere balmy & warm! x
4th April 2014

not quite dettached after all!
Hi Jess, we saw a doctor in Kathmandu and it looks like Suz had just pulled a muscle near her rib. Although saying that she is still in pain even 3 weeks later. We are hoping another 3 weeks and she will be okay. Muscle tends to take about 6 weeks to heal itself. Hope the rugrat and dogs are doing well! And that the pregnancy is going well also. Oh and the Warwick life! Gee you 2 have been busy.

Stunning!
That's what I'm talking about! Fantastic view!

Everest Smoke, view from Gokyo Ri

Gokyo Ri - superb
Spot on! The views from Gokyo Ri were absolutely amazing. We have been told, you get a much better perspective of the Himalayas from this vantage point as opposed to Kala Patthar, near Everest Base Camp. So we are happy we decided to head over this way at the start of our trek.
27th March 2014

don't worry too much
Hey guys! don't be too disheartened about having to turn back; I think you did extremely well getting to where you got and you should keep that in your head; it's better to be safe than sorry. I've been enjoying your trip so far and I'm looking forward to your next blog.
30th March 2014

100% right
Hi Denidax, thanks for the kind words. We are certainly happy about making it to Gokyo Ri and the spectacular views we were able to witness. I'll sum it all up in blog 5 of 5 of this series. Hi hope Majorca is being kind to your family of three!
