On Sunday, I was to meet up with the other BGSU students at the Nantes train station at 4:15. It was a hell of a day to say the least. Contacting them was impossible and a single mishap would make finding them very, very difficult. My checkout at the apartment I was previously staying at was for 11am. There was that awkward five hour gap where I had nowhere to go and all of my bags. I wasn't exactly sure what to do. I took a chance went to the new apartment complex hoping I could check in early. Boy was I wrong. Sundays are like a holiday in France. No one works, many of the smaller transportation routes do not run. Instead of uncovering bad memories I am just going to say that Sunday was ... read more

For whatever reason, I hate looking like a tourist. I always scolded my mother when she would take out a map and try to find out where we were, or where we were going, it immediately pegged us as tourists (Mom your still my favorite travel bud, don't worry). So being in Nantes by myself, it was a goal to be indiscreet and walk around like a normal citizen of the city. After my first half hour of attempting not to look like a tourist, I had already failed miserably. I walked out of the airport and walked toward the bus stop. It seemed so simple when online, you just hop on a bus, and fifteen minutes later you are downtown. But they didn't tell you there would be 50 options at that particular bus stop. ... read more

When traveling you know things aren't always going to go your way. You do all you can to ensure that things don't go wrong. But of course you are not the only one traveling, there are so many minuscule things that can go wrong and slip up the well-oiled machine. Can you guess where this is going? After boarding the plane in Detroit, I was finally settling down and getting excited for this trip. Europe was in sight. My one stop on the way to Nantes was Amsterdam. For those of you who have never been to the Schiphol, it is HUGE. I was warned that an hour layover might not give me enough time to get to my next flight. But I was confident that I could make it, as long as there wasn't any ... read more

Memorial day weekend is the gateway to summer. Pools open, lake houses get trashed, docks are installed, and more beer is consumed then the average weekend. Most people have their traditions when it comes to this celebrated weekend. For me, I have always done something completely different. For the 2012 Memorial Day weekend, I was to venture into the wilderness of Michigan with my mother, her friend, to meet with her friend, who had brought more friends...Confusing right? I was stepping into an uncharted territory. But it was a holiday so what the hell. After a four-hour car ride, a nasty continuous storm, and a forty-degree drop in the temperature (no joke) we made it to our final destination. This cabin was unlike I had ever seen. In the 1930's a wealthy industrial owner purchased a ... read more
