Sorry for the delay in getting out trip info about Peru up. Here are a few pictures till we get the write up done. Upon arrival in Cusco we commented about a billboard we saw enroute to the baggage claim. It was a cheesy tourist photo of a family up at Machu Picchu, only one member of the family was turning away out the side of the frame obviously not feeling well. It was an ad for elevation sickness medicine. We had a good laugh. Then my body started telling me that I really should pay more attention to what that ad was advertising. By the time we got to our hostel: Amaru Hostal, I was starting to get sick with even the smallest movement. So when I managed to recover a little we walked to ... read more

Wow, we had such a great time in Patagonia. From el Calafate we took a day trip to the Torres de Paine national park and spent some time hiking on the Moreno Glacier which was so cool, it is so massive and makes you feel so tiny. el Chalten was a really neat frontier town, dirt roads and horse corrals right off the main road. It truly makes you feel like you are at the end of the world. You bump along on a 4 hour bus ride from el Calafate just to get to the next "town" that is a mere few blocks long. We really lucked out and got nice weather our second day there and were able to see the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre mountain spires up close, amazing. Back in el ... read more

What a change of pace, from tiny el Chalten at the 'end of the world' to Buenos Aires the 9th largest city in the world. You really feel that you have been transported to a spanish Paris. The city is very huge and we only had a small time there. We visited the neighborhoods of Ricoletta and San Telmo, both are very cool and different from one another. We stayed in el Centro here: http://www.elconquistador.com.ar/ The custom in BsAs is to have very late dinners. So that is what we did, we went out for Steak dinner at 10 pm! And the restaurant was packed. The city stays up all night long, so you see people just coming home from the bars & tango dancing when you´re eating breakfast!... read more

Normandy Park 47 degrees North Punta Arenas 53 degrees South That is a lot of flying! What a long day and a half of flying. Our first flight featured Lisa getting quite nauseous & sick from some medications she started taking that morning for her dental work the day before. So while I was happily sleeping the first half of the fight away, Lisa was not. Our second flight had a different kink. After learning that our flight arrived an hour later than we thought it would due to daylight savings time, we ended up sitting on the plane at the gate for over an hour due to baggage problems. When we finally got in the air, we had a projected 30 minute connection in lima, which we were not yet checked in for, instead of ... read more

Rain, Rain, We'll Go Away! The past week here in Seattle has been very rainy and dark. The earlier part of this week our home saw over 5" of rain, and it is still coming down. Lisa comes home well after the sun has set and it is dark. We love living in Seattle and this is a part of living here, but every now and then you do need to get away from it. And get away, we shall. 7,551 miles to be accurate. We are feverishly gathering all our gear and taking care of last minute details for our trip next week to South America. This weekend we have been busy getting our packs packed and starting to put up our Christmas decorations for when we get back (we are hosting Christmas for our ... read more
