Saturday 19th October New York – Washington DC Sunny with drizzly spells - 17’C Our driver Abraham picked us up in his town car nice and early at 8.30am to take us out to the RV collection point in Tappan, New York - which is about a 45 minute drive north from downtown Manhattan. It actually felt like we were leaving the cocoon of New York and straying out into the real world again! Jimmy the manager at Camping World was awesome to deal with and had us out of the depot within an hour, after showing us over our new wheels and doing the paperwork. Our home for the next 10 days is a Ford E-23 Freedom Elite, 23ft class C Motor-home. First port of call was to a huge shopping complex called the Palisades ... read more

Monday 14th October Columbus Day Fine and sunny - 20'C We had breakfast in the apartment before heading out to explore some of Central Park. It was Columbus Day today, with some businesses observing it as a public holiday and not opening. Many people were out strolling through the park due to the long weekend and we really enjoyed wandering the winding pathways in the warm sun. There was some great talent busking in the park which we stopped to check out. We could hear the Columbus Day parade heaving and jostling up 5th Avenue towards us so we found a few vantage points along the way as we headed back down from Central Park towards Times Square. We wanted to see what the opportunities were for buying cheap theatre tickets as we're thinking of seeing ... read more

Wednesday 2nd Oct Montreal Fine and sunny 20c We had a great sleep-in before venturing out from our apartment on Rue Saint-Maurice about 8.30am, popping around the corner to a great little French café called Le Cartet on Rue McGill for brunch. We explored the beautiful cobbled streets of the old port area before heading into the city proper. The autumn colours are just beginning to show their bright orange and red hues in Montreal and we can only imagine the contrast in another couple of weeks. We walked up into the Latin Quarter before heading back along Rue Sainte-Catherine, a shopping street that is home to many boutique stores. For lunch we purchased a delicious smoothie - Fraise Banane Moyen from Al & Jo. Shortly after we were stopped on the street by a TV ... read more

Saturday 21st September Vancouver Cloudy and mild Arrived back in Vancouver to an overcast day and back to the reality of having to pay for meals! The six of us jumped off the ship around 9am to get onboard our half-day bus tour of Vancouver with West Coast Sightseeing. We actually did this when we last visited Vancouver, but in the reverse order. This time we were boarding it at the ship so it could take us and all of our luggage, do the half-day tour and then drop us off at our respective hotels. We were staying at the St Regis Hotel, on the corner of Dunsmuir and Seymour St. We visited the usual haunts of Chinatown, Gastown, Stanley Park, Guinness Bridge, Granville Island markets and up the 180 metres above sea level Vancouver lookout. ... read more

Saturday 14thSeptember 2013 Partly cloudy, 27c Cruise Embarkation Day! Today we started on our 7 night cruise from Seattle to Vancouver. We had a sleep in, went for our daily walk to get a yummy juice and some supplies. We finished packing – oh so much stuff, checked out at midday and took a taxi down to Pier 66 where we joined the line to embark the lovely Norwegian Jewel. It was a reasonably fast embarkation and rooms ready shortly after - at about 1pm. Sail away was at 4pm. We sat up on the deck above the pool and enjoyed the festive atmosphere. Not being allowed irons in the cabin we had to collect our bag from the confiscation room where they will hold our iron until the end of the cruise. We had dinner ... read more

Tuesday 10 Sept Fine and sunny – 30c It appears we posted the blog for LA too soon as United Airlines thought we might like to hang out at LAX airport a little bit longer – actually a LOT bit longer! Our flight was due to depart for Seattle at 5.30pm but due to several delays blamed on mechanical issues, atmospheric conditions and pretty much anything else they could think of, we finally departed at 8.30pm. Arrived in Seattle just after 11.00pm and cabbed it to our home for the next 5 nights – The Paramount Hotel on Pine St. The ground floor of the hotel has a fantastic bar / restaurant called ‘Dragonfish’. We were starving and fortunately they were still serving food until 1.00am so we inhaled a selection of ... read more

Date - Monday 9th September 2013 What a gorgeous day to leave Wellington, NZ. Knowing we had a long day ahead with three plane journeys and airport terminals we started the day with a lovely brisk walk around the area Jennie's parents live in. With the head clear and the bodies energised we completed our packing and left the wonderful family resort of "Davis Hotel"! The resident chauffeur kindly took us to the airport where we took our flight bound for Auckland at midday. Met by another friendly family chauffeur we had an enjoyable lunch at a yummy cafe near the airport. After completing a few admin tasks and catching up with family we headed back to the airport to complete check-in formalities for our LA leg of the journey. In Duty Free Jennie bought another ... read more

Date Tuesday 30th November 2010 Destination Dallas, Texas Temp 12c - sunny We arrived into Dallas around 7.00am to a beautiful clear morning and temperatures reminiscent of Wellington – a bit of a change to our usual balmy standard! Since we were probably going to hang out at the airport for the day before our evening flight to Buenos Aires, we went in search of either an airport hotel or business lounge to set up base camp. First off we checked out the Dallas airport Hyatt. To check the hotel we had to pass through the security exit to get out of the airport so we made sure we had our passports and boarding pass with us. Their day rate was just a little bit expensive for us so we went back airside to check on ... read more

Date Thursday 18th November 2010 City New York, Phoenix, Honolulu Currency NZ$1.00 = US$0.76 Climate Low 10c – high 28c We boarded our US Airways flight from New York just before 10am for our 5 hour flight to Phoenix, Arizona. The bad news was there was no food supplied on the flight despite the length, nor were there any TV, movies or audio services at all. The good news was this gave us a chance to catch up on the New York blog and catch a few zzz’s. Our stop in Phoenix was brief, but long enough to grab a drink and do some emails. We also had to turn our clocks back 2 hours. Our next flight was also on US Airways and this time there was a TV, which showed a couple of TV ... read more

Date Saturday 13th of November City Manhattan, New York Currency NZ$1.00 = US$0.76 Climate Low 9c – high 16c – fine and sunny Sailing into New York at dawn was spectacular. We had a wonderful clear morning, and many passengers were up on the outside decks early to witness the Manhattan skyline wake up to the lovely sunrise. It was quite chilly up on deck with people rugged up in jackets, scarves, gloves, beanies and warming themselves with a hot coffee. Going under the impressive Verrazano Bridge was amazing. You may have seen images of it when TV has covered the New York Marathon with thousands of people running over it. Also, seeing the Statue of Liberty gleaming in the sun was a true photo moment. We had chosen a disembarkation luggage tag for around 10am ... read more
