Yellowstone In 1872 2.5 million acres were set aside for Yellowstone. making the park America's first national park. Thanks for the snail mail. Take care.
Beartooth disappointment Well darn it all.... I'm sorry you didn't the "full" trip over the pass. It is a wonderful drive, but I guess not during the snow season??? A drive to remember for another time.
Your sunset picture is "spectacular" and "gorgeous." Thanks again for providing such breathtaking pictures to view each day. I'm having a great time and saving money too.

World's Largest Dump (Truck) My guess 40 tonnes. Piece of trivia about those wheels. Tyres for these big wheels are hard to get in Australia now with the mining boom. Prices are about $25,000 per tyre I think if not more.
Keep on having fun guys.
It depends What defines a Howitzer is the ratio of the gun barrel to the diameter of the projectile, a barrel length of less than 30 diameters causes a high arching / high angle of fire trajectory. Today common diamerters are 155mm, 105mm, 75mm was common in WWII. In Forest Service use I would guess the older 75mm, or possible the 105mm.
Trivia What is missing from Glacier Ice to make it Blue? Tiny air pockets. The ice absorbs all other colors in the spectrum and reflects primarily blue. White ice has many tiny air bubbles still in the ice.
Calendar for the next few years Carl your pictures are so wonderful I can't even tell you how much I'm enjoying my trip with the both of you...... and all my muscles feel fine. ;-)
I think you are going to need to put together a calendar with all of your pictures and I would be the first one to want one when you get a permanent home.
Keep up the wonderful journal.

Welcome to God's country Congratulations on your safe arrival - I hope it doesn't snow on you (it did last Thursday, Friday and some on Saturday). You chose a great highway (93) and if you take it out of Radium, heading for the Trans Canada (#1 Hwy) you'll have more beautiful mountain/valley/continental divide scenery than you'll know what to do with. Looking forward to the pictures, you're making me homesick!
be safe, stay warm, hope the truck holds up!

5525 miles long and 20 feet wide would be the US-Canadian border clearing. I don't think it stops to many illegal aliens though. In fact during Vietnam I believe they were heading out of the US anyway.....

Angus... They seem to be doing well at Turkey Creek Ranch?... Also, they seem to do well in Australia and command a high price in Europe. Of course, they are best on the grill!!
Welcome to our Travel Log... We, Carl and Maria are starting an adventure - The Odyssey - where we quit our jobs, travel around the USA and then move to Australia! Join us on our adventure...

your picture is not very close, lacks detail, my wild guess is some sort of trash incenerator.
