all day challenge My brother-in-law and I started at Coffee Pot Campground at sun up heading down Wagon Gulch to Dead Horse hoping to reach I-70 with our mountain bikes. Having reached the rim of the canyon after lunch, the secret path to easy coasting on to Glennwood Springs did not materialize.
We handed bikes overhead up landslide for hours. Up, back up, finally finding cell signal at the farm implement up there somewhere. Our girls came and got us after sundown.
He was a marine and I was an airborne paratrooper fifteen years before. This is definitely a do not do it without brass. What a memory!
I hope to try to make it to Wigwam Park next year. That climb along the creek would have been much easier if it weren't for the overgrowth. Thanks for your comments!
Thanks for your comments! When I first went online to find out information about that trail, all I could find was a short blurb about it on a Hanging Lake description. I think that's the ultimate problem: the Forest Service probably doesn't bother maintaining the trail since the VAST majority of visitors just go up to the lake. Sorry to hear about your hand! Chairs gone We hiked this route in June 2008 and are happy to report that the chairs are no longer at the overlook. Although we could have used them. At least going back the next day was mostly downhill. Great pictures!

Wow Dave! I had to take a few deep breaths just looking at your photos-- with these views, I can see why you've become an obsessive Colorado hiker. Next stop-- the peaks of the world!
Beautiful Hiking Wow, those pictures are great! I love the Pacific Northwest (where I live) but I don't think anything can beat the Rockies. Those waterfalls are paradise!
I love the Rocky Mountains in the summer! Over the last several years, I have developed a serious need to go hiking whenever the opportunity presents itself. Last summer, I managed to get in 36 hikes between mid-March and the beginning of November. With my busy schedule, that means I was usually either at work or hiking! I suppose there are far worse things to be obsessed with, right?
The ultimate purpose of this blog is to share all of the great hiking experiences I've had with other hikers. I've found that there is an unfortunate lack of good hiking websites, so I hope to contribut... full info
