| 10th November 2008 Rex Farley | all day challenge - From: Dead Horse Trail (Glenwood Canyon) My brother-in-law and I started at Coffee Pot Campground at sun up heading down Wagon Gulch to Dead Horse hoping to reach I-70 with our mountain bikes. Having reached the rim of the canyon after lunch, the secret path to easy coasting on to Glennwood Springs did not materialize. We handed bikes overhead up landslide for hours. Up, back up, finally finding cell signal at the farm implement up there somewhere. Our girls came and got us after sundown. He was a marine and I was an airborne paratrooper fifteen years before. This is definitely a do not do it without brass. What a memory! |
| 14th September 2008 The Obsessive Hiker | - From: Rolling Creek Trail (Lost Creek Wilderness Area) I hope to try to make it to Wigwam Park next year. That climb along the creek would have been much easier if it weren't for the overgrowth. Thanks for your comments! |
| 14th September 2008 The Obsessive Hiker | - From: Dead Horse Trail (Glenwood Canyon) Thanks for your comments! When I first went online to find out information about that trail, all I could find was a short blurb about it on a Hanging Lake description. I think that's the ultimate problem: the Forest Service probably doesn't bother maintaining the trail since the VAST majority of visitors just go up to the lake. Sorry to hear about your hand! At least the views of Glenwood Canyon are nice... |
| 1st September 2008 Trevor Biggin | maybe my favourite spot on two tours of the West - From: The River Walk/The Emerald Pools/The Watchman (Zion National Park, Utah) In 2005 & 2008 I took almost identical tours in Western USA & Zion is so beautiful. I did the Emerald Pools walk in both years & it is so beautiful! |
| 17th July 2008 Hornet 22 | Chairs gone - From: Rolling Creek Trail (Lost Creek Wilderness Area) We hiked this route in June 2008 and are happy to report that the chairs are no longer at the overlook. Although we could have used them. This hike from TH to Wigwam Trail junction is BRUTAL! About 2,000 ft. eleveation up to saddle, then 1,000 ft. down to junction. The camping was wonderful near the beaver ponds. At least going back the next day was mostly downhill. Great pictures! |
| 6th July 2008 christopher warner | Agreed! - From: Dead Horse Trail (Glenwood Canyon) I wish I'd read this before I decided to try Dead Horse. I got my hand sliced up a bit coming back down on the second bungee cord - the one that goes up the cliff. In addition to a buddy (or small group), I'd also say to bring some gloves. |
| 13th May 2008 COEngineer | Lawn Chair? - From: Rolling Creek Trail (Lost Creek Wilderness Area) Why is there a lawnchair at the lookout? Isn't this a wilderness area? Leave no trace and all that. COEngineer |
| 7th February 2008 Billy L | Great shots - From: Observation Point (Zion National Park, Utah) I was in Zion in March 2007 and i going back in March 2008. I am not much of a hiker due to 2 bad knees. |
| 15th March 2007 Auntie K | Wow Dave! - From: Mt. Audabon (Indian Peaks Wilderness Area) I had to take a few deep breaths just looking at your photos-- with these views, I can see why you've become an obsessive Colorado hiker. Next stop-- the peaks of the world! |
| 25th February 2007 mom2theboys | vicious snow beasts - From: Fourth of July Trail (Indian Peaks Wilderness Area) somehow those beasts look awfully familiar ! ! ! ! are they perchance related to me ? ? ? ? |
| 17th February 2007 Jamie | Beautiful Hiking - From: Hanging Lake (Glenwood Canyon) Wow, those pictures are great! I love the Pacific Northwest (where I live) but I don't think anything can beat the Rockies. Those waterfalls are paradise! |
