On Sunday in Split everything is closed except the restaurants and grocery stores. We took the advice of our waitress at the Adriana during breakfast and drove south of Split about 30 min to go to the beach. We found the perfect spot right near the San Antonio Hotel. We found a place that had small pebbles that was slightly inclined and laid our new Croatia beach towels there. We got in the very salty Adriatic Sea often because it was warm. You can sit in the water on the pebbles and it is really pleasant. Because it was Sunday [View Full Entry]

We spent our last night in Split and then woke up and did some shopping. The jewelry in Hvar and Split has been beautiful. There are lots of handmade gold and silver ornate jewelry. There is also a lot of coral and turquoise. Every little shop has something a little different. The traditional Pursta or Bursta jewelry is only in Hvar and Split and is beautiful. Jon found a new and clean pair of shorts and a shirt at Diesel. We jumped in the little car and headed north to the Opatija Riviera. We took the highway that was a [View Full Entry]

We slept in at the Palace Hotel and went to a little pastry bakery and picked up some chocolate and cheese filled pastries and then went to a little sea side cafe and got some coffee and hot chocolate to go along with. We walked down the little streets and purchased some beach towels from one of the little vendors. They are our new favorite towels. We went to the little market and got some lunch items to go. Then we went to the harbor and there are little water taxi ferry boats to take you to the other little [View Full Entry]

Today we rode our last hot and sweaty bus in Dubrovnik from The Hotel Neptune to the Hilton to pick up our 4 door silver Fiat Punto. We love Fiat Puntos. We began driving north toward Split. We saw beautiful coastline and picked up some fruit at a fruit stand on the side of the road. We arrived at Drvenik a little beach town to take the car onto the ferry to The Island of Hvar. On the ferry Jon was wearing his SB Triathlon hat and a couple sitting in front of us as asked if we were from [View Full Entry]

We left rainy and cold London yesterday to arrive here to beautiful HOT and sunny Croatia. We flew from Gatwick to Dubrovnik on British Airways. When we arrived in Dubrovnik we were pleasantly surprised how sunny and hot it was about 33C or 91F. We read in the Frommer’s guide to take a bus into the center of old town which we did. The Croatians use Kuna for their money and it is about 5 Kuna to the dollar so our money goes a long way. This is a nice change from London. We took a cab to our hotel, [View Full Entry]

We have all been very busy in London since the Nevin’s family and Derek have arrived. We have been having so much fun. Jon and I met up with our friends Jen and Dan from home and checked out the British Museum. This is a very great place to see mummies and artifacts from Egypt and from lots of other amazing places. We saw the Rosetta stone there too. We said goodbye to Jen and Dan because they were off to the Tower of London, which Jon and I had already seen last year. We headed to the National Gallery. We had another amazing day in London today. We stared the morning with a trip to Moss Bros and Jon is now the proud new owner of a morning coat. It turned out that it was a better deal to buy the suit than to rent it. So, if he shows up to a party with a crazy British suit on don't be surprised. Then we came back to the hotel and got dressed up for afternoon tea at the Ritz. Tea at the Ritz is another thing that you need to experience at least once in your lifetime. If [View Full Entry]

Jon, Camille and I had another unbelievable day in London. Jon hit Moss Bros early this morning to pick up his morning coat and top hat. Once we were all dressed, Robert our driver picked us up and took us to Opening day of Royal Ascot. One of the Queen’s favorite pastimes in horseracing and this is her horseracing party. The grounds are truly amazing and this year was the second year of the new building and they have really perfected everything. Once we were in the Royal Enclosure. We went to the Parade Ring to watch The Queen, Camilla, [View Full Entry]
