Spider Wallace
The second, third, and sixth pics are of the spiders. It is hard to get an idea of how large they are, but the body is about the length of my middle finger and the entire spider is easily the size of my hand. They're impressive!
I enjoyed the blog until I read about... Spiders!!! That's when I'd turn around and get back on the cab. :) Looks like an awesome adventure man. The lunch pic looks good but I'm not sure that was chicken in there. Might have been the missing 3rd German Sister... Sorry I couldn't help myself. CLappi was in town this weekend. Hung out with him a bunch. Football is starting back up. The Pats are going down against my Fins baby. :) Have a safe trip back to the states.
You're alive!!! Man buddy, I was thinking some bad mu-shu pork had gotten you since you haven't posted in a while. Glad to hear you're alive and still adventuring. :) Were those legit Oakleys or fakes? Do they have Maui Jim's?
Hey Z! I am alive and well :) Glasses were sold as "copies" but I'm not sure if they actually are. There are conflicting reports and they are so nice, I don't really care one way or the other. They are such good copies that it is really impossible to tell. They come in the correct case, they are polarized, they are made really well. Yes, they have Maui Jims. They have everything! I am not sure if I will get a chance to make it back there or not. I have about 2 1/2 weeks left and most of that will be flying.
Later buddy!
Happy Birthday! Hope you can find some cake to eat today that doesn't have fish balls or chicken's legs in it. Just kidding. Have a happy birthday Ian!
Tai O Wow, what an adventure! You are really getting around. Being a meat and potatoes man (and fish), I would never venture to try most of your eating samples.
Awesome Blog Ian - this blog is amazing...nice work! A couple things here: Is the Chinese woman in the 3rd pick with the goofy visor snapping a photo of you for her own entertainment? And please request that they leave the sleeves off that suit...I like the look and think you may be starting something.
Sweat and Suits! Lol First, great blog as usual, Ian! ? Where are the pics of you in your new suits, though? Lol HK sounds soooo humid! ? Make sure you're staying hydrated!
Google Translate? Ian, have you used the Google Translate on your iPhone? I'm sure that's a stupid question but it's pretty cool. Haven't traveled overseas with it yet but it looks really useful. You can even have someone speak into it and have them translated for you. Awesome pics as always. Was thinking about you and the family this weekend. We had the airshow at Elmendorf and I took Torsten for the first time. Just made me think of when you were up here and we took Connor. Stay safe bro and eat some sticky pork dumplings for me.
Google Translate? Hey Zefross! All that good stuff takes up a lot of data which is super expensive over here and it really isn't necessary. Unless you get way down some back ally everyone speaks enough English to get by. Thanks for the idea though! Give my love to the kids and wife!
Suits and hike Ian, you are really making an adventure out of this. It is good to do that while you have time. You will probably get a lot busier an the job gets going. Some great pix. I like the hydro-foil.
Great Stories. Ian, I am really enjoying your daily accounts and photos. We had lunch with one of my Navy friends and British wife yesterday. He worked for the government and had several too-year tours there. He became fairly high up and they did a lot of social entertaining. I gave him your blog and asked him to send you any suggestions he may have. It has been 20 or more years since they were there, but he was interested in your trip. He became fluent in Chinese. His name is Roger.
Stuck in my mind Hey Ian, you ought be a tour book writer -- you write so well -- and with great interest. Oh your inquisitive mind for experiences -- I envy you checking all the things out that you do. It seems that you are going to be able to experience enough different things that you will probably start to have some real interest in returning to HK in the future. Yes the concept of entering a high rise to return glasses and have the name of the high rise be the same name as the owner of the glasses would seem to me to be surreal in terms of the backdrop to this reality of how it came to be that the high rise and the new plane fit a rational picture of reality for these people.
Nothing here has changed too much. Lighting hit one of my plastic woven ropes holding one of my antennas and literally vaporized about a 100 feet of it. I could find no signs of any of the material from which the rope was made. It caused some minor damage with the internal electronics in the house. The strange thing was what few small pieces that I found, were completely frayed but upon close inspection there was no signs that it had been heated from lighting -- I expect that all the damage was caused by an acoustic energy blast.
Hey man -- keep cool -- here's luck to you on your assignment -- will comment later.
Dim Sum is dee-lish! Awesome blog post again Ian. I can only imagine how hot and muggy SE Asia is right now. Does google translate work with menu's? You could always type in chicken dumplings please and it'll say it out in mandarin or German for that matter. Might help with that german girl. :) Glad you're making the most of your trip. Look forward to your next post.
Great Blog! Ian, you're a natural blogger! I feel like I'm right there with you on the streets of HK. :-) I'm so happy you're experiencing everything HK has to offer, even if you never eat chicken feet again. lol Too bad we couldn't experience the thunderstorm with you. I love a great thunderstorm! Have a blast (around work of course lol), and keep the posts coming! (hugs)

Sounds like a great adventure. Where are the photos of the banana spiders?
