Kel, It sounds like you and Mike did a terrific job climbing to the castle. 2.5 miles uphill is a really good physical accomplishment. Who knows what opportunities you guys may have when you return in world class condition. The olympics might be a bit of a stretch. Love, Bruce / Daddy
power bars If you are going to keep moving at this pace you are going to need to find some of those super high calorie snacks to keep handy. I am reading too many action verbs and too little of comments like, "We sat at the cafe for the afternoon and watched the passerby." Glad you all are well.
May your days continue to be exciting and your nights restful, until you catch up on your jet lag that is. I am thoroughly enjoying your blog. Look forward to more updates.
Kel and Mike,
First of all, it was such a blessing to spend the last couple days with you both and then to see you off at the airport. You guys looked so adorable with your backpacks on, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready and excited to take on whatever this trip has in store.
Secondly, Mike, thank you so-o much for taking the time to fill us all in on your adventures and for posting the photos which enable the rest of us to travel along with you. I'm delighted to see that you both look rested, relaxed and from the sound of things are enjoying yourselves immensely. It was quite observant of you to notice the rogue pigeon. Keep up the good work.
Thirdly, Kel, thanks heaps for calling. Just hearing your happy, delightful voice on the answering machine makes me feel all better. =) You’re the best!
Love ya like crazy,
Leslie / Mom
Guys, glad to hear you're not starving in Portugal. It sounds like you might be able to write a column in one of our Sunday food sections. Maybe that would be a good idea! You sure haven't wasted any time getting into the swing of things. It was also good to see that you were able to catch up with your rest. It's great fun for us to follow your adventures. Love, Bruce/Daddy
Glad you had a safe though uncomfortable flight. What were you thinking? Leg room? Better start looking at first class in the future. Keep the blogs coming, they are quite entertaining! Have fun
Make sure to have some vinho verde! I think that is how you spell it. It is green wine. Kind of a sparkling white. I remember really liking it when I was there. Granted, that was when I was 19 and thought the pink wine my mom drank from a jug was fancy. Love the blogs!!!! Keep them coming and know I'm reading every one! Also, remember, it is 3 kisses in Portugal!
Jet Lag Loopiness The jet lag must have really gotten to you b/c we all know you don't have pectoral muscles!
Glad you both made it safely. Can't wait to keep up with your updates.
Negril - Sandals Kelley,
My husband and I were at that same resort in Negril last July with some friends as they got married and our thoughts about the resort were similar to yours. Great for partiers, not great for everyone! It did bring a lot of personal memories back for me, so just know that your travels are touching a lot of people, no matter how remotely, very deeply. Thanks for the updates, keep them coming!

Lewis Carroll The Lewis Carroll thing is genetic. I myself can recite "The Jabberwocky" entirely from memory..."'Twas brilling, and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe...." Unexplainable, but genetic.
best wishes to you both I am so excited for you guys. I can't wait to read more - you guys definitely need to put this in a book! Kelley, I know we talked about this, but you really need to do it - especially for all of those of us living vicariously through you for the next year! Wishing you both safe travels and lots of fun!
Thanks for sending us the link. Chase and I are looking forward to following your very exciting journey over the next year. It may be a great learning experience for everyone.
Good luck and happy travels from your friends back on the loop. E
Baby Culture Shock Mike and KT - I hope you have great trip! Enjoy your adventure :) As for all the friends having babies - we can relate as we were on the end of our friends joining parent-dom. It will change those backyard get-togethers some but we are starting to see how much fun the next stage can be. Plus you can still have the beers and hang on the deck after the kids are in bed (which is pretty early - so the night is still young)!! So the good times will still be here when you return.
For all of you who don't know us, we are a relatively normal married couple from Richmond, VA. We have been married for 5 years and have been friends since we met at Capital One on our first day of work. We have decided to make a "nontraditional move" with our lives. On November 7th, 2006 Kel and I left everything behind and started traveling beginning with Lisbon, Portugal. The plan was to start in Europe, hit Asia, Australia and New Zealand and then return to Europe to finish our year. Before it was all said and done we added destinations in the Middle East and Africa. The trip was am... full info
