We used this blog to keep our family and friends up to date with our travels around Australia in 2006. We returned to Sydney in December 06 and added a blog at the end of 2007 to bring everyone up to date. It is now the end of May 2008 and we are building a new home so will be blogging again to keep everyone informed of the progress of our very own Grand Design.
Further to the above, it is now 2011 and we have just returned from a 6 week European sojourn. I will therefore be adding an episode or two about these travels.
Well I know I said I would write a blog before last Xmas but unfortunately it didn’t happen so it appears I now have to update you all for the last 2 years for this blog. Promise I won’t rabbit on – will just give you all a quick rundown on the events of the last 24 months or so. The last entry was just before Xmas 2008 so it is now coming up to our third Xmas in the house and we have obviously not gone to live and work in Dubai. John did a 3 week stint there in January 2009 and really enjoyed the challenge but that was the last visit. The work will happen there eventually but I doubt whether we will be prepared to go now that we have settled so
... read moreHi there everyone - a long overdue update on the building process and a quick review of our 2008 as the Xmas entry. Last time I wrote things were going along swimmingly and have continued that same way, more or less. In actual fact we left our Peakhurst rental at the end of September and moved into the caravan on site. The upstairs of the building was close to being finished at this stage, bathroom operational, carpets in, power on but no window coverings. We were able to eat and sleep in the van and use the bathroom upstairs. Also had the lounge set up so we could watch telly and have some quiet evenings. The builders left on 3rd October and since then have had so much done that the house is 90% completed. We

When last I wrote just over three months ago on about May 28th, our floors were down and we were expecting the frames to be started the next day. As I write this on Saturday 23rd August there is a real house standing on our block! The photos will show the story so I will just briefly fill you in on a few of the happenings of the last three months. Firstly we received so much feedback from the first blog we were really chuffed! So many of you sent emails and added great comments - most I have published - thanks to all. Like I said being owner/builders is far more demanding than we
... read moreHi All Last entry was Xmas 07 so thought I would update our lives. In that entry I very assuredly stated we would be starting our new home on January 7th 2008!!! What a blissful thought. It didn’t happen. After much negotiating with our preferred builder who wouldn’t do it for the price we thought appropriate, we decided to embark on this great journey of being “Owner/builders” at the end of which we will have saved a bucket load of money!!! This remains to be seen of course so will get back to you on that around Xmas time. John had a lot of trepidation about going down this route but as we have gone along he has had help from some very good friends and his confidence is growing daily. Owner/building means engaging all your

The travelblog is still active and there is no reason why we can’t just pick up where we left off - albeit in a more abbreviated form. As you all know we arrived back in Sydney mid December 06 ready to celebrate a great Xmas with the family. It was lovely being back and meeting our new grandson Sam Cooper Ridley who was just 2 and a half months old. We were also greeted with the news that Leigh and Michael were expecting their first child and our 6th grandchild in May. There is always something happening in the Stubbs family!!! Tim and Janelle

It was just lovely to be back and welcomed so wholeheartedly by Jack and Hannah. They have grown so much but are just as delightful as ever. I had my first cuddles with little Sam and he has stolen my heart. He is just starting to smile and gurgle so we had some great conversations. Also caught up with Zac and Maddison on Sunday. They have had a very busy year with Zac completing Kindergarten and Maddison starting to look like an Olympic swimmer. They had a new pool built over the winter and are really looking forward to the Xmas holidays when

From now on a lot of our trip consists of catching up with more family and friends so just read very quickly over the bits you are not interested in - I promise I won’t ask questions when we get home!! Arrived in Brisbane on Wednesday 8th November and booked into the Gateway CP in Rochedale. As we told people where we were staying most said “ROCHEDALE??” as if it was the end of the earth. It is not the most salubrious area but Brisbane doesn’t have a lot of tourist caravan parks as we discovered. This one was very close to the motorway and we were worried about the noise (didn’t even notice it in the

Have been writing it up now and then but haven't been able to coordinate the photos and writing. Very slack of me I know but will catch up now. Will probably publish two blogs within a day or so - I know how exciting that will be for you all so get a grip, open a beer - or boil the jug and make a coffee and read on!!! Left Yeppoon on Tues 24th October and headed for Rockhampton which is only an hour or so inland. Stayed here for 4 nights which was quite pleasant. John had a game of golf and was very impressed with the golf course. We spent a lot
... read moreOK everyone, it is actually Wednesday 13th December and I am trying to update my latest blog. Have just found that this one says it is unpublished!! No wonder I didn't get any comments for a long time. My apologies if you have already read this - I am going to publish it anyway. Let me know if it is the second time you have read it all. Firstly, have to correct the info from the previous blog about our new grandson whose name is Sam COOPER Ridley. Kate has excused the error as being a bit of Nanna moment so I'm happy to go along with that! This blog will cover some lovely places from Cairns down to Mackay. After our trip to Cape York we stayed in the Crystal Cascades CP for another 5
... read moreHi all, I know I haven't written for a while and this will just be a very short blog. We have a new grandson, Sam Connor Ridley, born Monday 9th October and weighed in at 8lbs 8ozs. Kate is amazingly well even if a little tired. Three kids under 4 is a handful but luckily she is a born mother. Brett's not bad too - they have been doing some work on the house and if they have another babe they may have to put on another storey. Anyway just thought I would pass on some photos of the new family member. Have a new nephew also. Lachlan Andrew Stubbs was born to Natalie and Andrew on Sept 12th and will probably be a great partner in crime with our Sam! Will put in photos of
