When we "visited" Kolkata, India, I was very disgusted with the way the children were treated in the brothels. They were treated as slaves, and some of the mothers did not seem very caring at all. What bothered me most was that the boarding schools would not accept the children because their parents were criminals. If they can't get accepted into a school and recieve a decent education, they will be trapped in poverty. It wasn't their fault they were born in the Red Light District! Thankfully, they were able to find a school that would take them. I liked the kids because they all seemed to have a good head on their shoulders. The purpose of this blog is to explain to the audience the kinds of poverty experienced by all different kinds of people in all different kinds of places around the world. As we "visit" each country, each student will share their thoughts and ideas about the poverty and economic instability there, and hopefully attempt to come up with a solution or alternatives. The purpose of Global Poverty & Economic Development is to spread awareness of difficulties faced by many people, young and old, around the globe.
