Route advice for Quebec to Prince Edward Island

We are planning a 4 to 6 week fall driving trip to visit Montreal, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, some of the coast of Maine and fall colors in New Hampshire and Vermont. Need advice on the route from Quebec to PEi. Choice #1 drive from Quebec to Riviere du Loup then south through Edmunston, Great Falls, Frederickston, Moncton to PEI or choice #2 drive south from Quebec to Bangor, Maine and then east to PEI. We like quaint towns and scenery. We live by the beach in So Cal so don't need miles and miles of beach scenery. Thanks for any advice.... read more
