Oh I am silly, I got the words mixed up! The thing I described was kushari, kunafa is the thing you just described, I had that in Egypt too :)

Law
There's no law regarding animals in Turkey? The Turkey Animal Protection Law 5199 is obviously not enforced here. So sad...):

Animals
It's complicated. The animal laws are enforced in some areas, not in others. They have a good shelter here - it's a no kill but the people are not always nice.

Kuneffe
What a lovely post, it really sounds like you had a good day. I'm so curious, the kuneffe, is it a dish of rice, pasta, and meat in a tomato sauce? In Egypt we had this and it was called kunafa, so I'm curious if it's the same thing :)

Kuneffe
The Kuneffe is actually a desert pastry made with cheese (weird huh?) It is so tasty - it has syrup and pistachios, and this weird thin type of crusting...

Pretty!!!
The pictures are so pretty! How is Bebek?

You'd be surprised to learn...
That Wichita, KS is a HUGE stopping place for missing and exploited sex slaves. They are routinely shipped through town (sometimes kept here for days/weeks/months for "services") and on to the East or West Coast. It's sick and sad. How is Bebek?

Kids
It isn't that there isn't anyone to turn them into, it is that there isn't anyone to help them. If they aren't shown how to be kind to one another, then how can you expect them to be kind to animals? They probably have to fight the animals for food. I feel bad for the dog that was hit, but I feel worse for the kids.

Please!!!
Is Bebek the skinny little puppy you fed in the street? I hope you can get back here to civilization with your darling furry baby. Keep me posted. I bawled like a baby when I read about the poor little thing laying there so hungry. PS...I had to fire Molly. Damn.

Insightful writing. . .not your average blog
Such nice entries here, poetic and with great photography. I especially enjoyed today's entry "Minarets." Glad to see that you are having a wonderful time while really getting in touch with the local culture and history. Thanks for sharing-

First of all, I love reading your blog Bridget :) Every time I get an email notification I'm so excited to read what you've written next! Secondly, I understand what you were writing about here; as a British convert I'm constantly grappling with coming from such a huge Atheist background, but also surrendering myself to the faith that I've chosen. For my husband, a born Muslim, Atheism doesn't exist on his radar. And also, aren't the calls to prayer such an eerie/beautiful sound? The first time I went to Egypt it was almost on the edge of making me feel crazy! But that might have been because there were like 12 different calls in the same street all clashing with each other.

Doors and Animals
I love the door...I'd like to see that kind of place... hidden doorways and passages. Sounds cool. As for the animals... while that is sad to hear, I now have a new threat for Tom when he is driving me nuts... "I WILL SEND YOU TO TURKEY!" LOL. Be safe!
