Virus BGone Alan:
So glad you're feeling better. I'm sure those days of feverish solitude and lazy stumbling from bungalow to hammock (to beer bucket and back) will be the mellow blur you'll remember about these months. Keep the photos and journal entries coming until you step off the plane in the U.S.!
In fact, 'm thinking you should continue the Smoovey journal well into your retirement years:
"And here's a photo of the paper clips on my new office desk. The yellow ones are particularly bright against the cool backdrop of the steel grey ink blotter."
Just a thought.
Be safe, be well, bedazzled.
Love your pictures Hi, was reading your blog after I was trying out this new feature Ali put on travelblog and I must say I am super glad he did
safe travels!

Wonder of Wonders Your incredible photos and beautifully written logs (and photo captions) make me feel as if I'm along for the adventure. This entry in particular put tears in my eyes as you describe the good works you and your team have contributed. I look forward to each entry and wish you a continued safe and mind-blowing journey.
Nice pictures Mui Ne does indeed have its moments. I have been to the Fairy Stream too and never found out the source of the name either. The search continues....
Keep it Coming Alan - I have really enjoyed your blog updates. Your pictures have been really amazing. Even dad was impressed, and you know how tough a critic he can be. That is great that you have been meeting so many pro-american locals. That is a bit surprising, I would have though you would have encountered more animosity. Sorrry we won't see you on Thanksgiving, but I'll try to explain to mom that you are not being "irresponsible", just adventurous. Julia says hi. I have been trying to show her on the globe where you have been, but I don't think she quite gets it. She wants to meet Meridith. Stay safe and keeps the updates coming.

Moth I would have been screaming like a girl at the sight of that moth. Your photography is unbelievable. You should print post cards when you make it back stateside.
F-ing Cool Hey Alan, I finally had a chance to start going through your updates. This is really cool. I am very impressed with your photography. When the heck do you find time to post to your blog? Looking forward reading about your adventures.

You are the man. Hey brother, greetings from Philly. Turn around now and go back to the beach. You know you want to. Quick update from the world of sports for ya from your home town. The Fly-boys are off to a hot start (8-5-0). The Iggles are about in the bag for the year (3-5) and just got smoked by the Cowgirls Sunday night. Your Stillers are a respectable 6-2 and have been lightin it up of late. And by the way, your Sox lost the Series in 7 games, a valant effort though. Just wanted to shoot you a quick note and let you know that you are doing something that many of us, including myself, wouldn't ever consider doing. Nice work outta you and keep you head up. T and the girls look forward to hearing stories of your great adventures abroad. Take care of yourself and we'll talk soon. Peace, jd
Cambodia Visa Lynn:
There's a couple ways you can get your Visa - do it at home ahead of time through the consulate or embassy in your country - this may take a week or two. Or you can get a Visa in most neighboring countries at any of the travel agencies or even most guesthouses/hotels - they'll all do it for a small feee; usually a few dollars. This will take a few days so if you decide to take this option do it as soon as you get into one of the cities in a neighboring country. The other options is simply to get it at the border crossings - it's simple and only takes a few minutes. I entered Cambodia via Bangkok - Poipet and you can do it right there. Here's a great website that I found helpful:
http://www.talesofasia.com/cambodia-overland-bkksr-self.htm
You can also get e-visas online and within 24 hrs they'll email it to you and print out two copies. This may be the best option - do a google search. I'm sitting in a cafe in Mui Ne Vietnam and a girl I met did this and she said it's really easy. I highly recommend Mui Ne for a beach town -small, relaxing and beautiful.
Good luck
Hi,
Nice posts that you have. I'm planning to visit Cambodia soon. How did you apply Cambodia visa? i found out a site regarding Cambodia e-visa application. Did u try this? Please give me some advice.
Hope to hear from you soon. :)
Regards,

nothing to be proud of Yeah, Johnson and Nixon fucked things up really well over there. I can understand feeeling ashamed about all of that, but that was their doing not ours. Right out of Apocalypse Now. Keep on trucking and keep your head down!

I'm not worthy! Wow, great blog, it sounds totally nuts. Mom read it last night and I had to comfort her afterwards. Glad to hear you are still in one piece. Did you check to see if you still have your kidneys? Great pics too. Your blog updates would make a good memoirs! Keep trekking. I have to admit I am a bit jealous, but not so much that I would follow your tracks. Julia says hi.

Thanks Pinto - much aprpeciate the message; can empathize and sympathize with exactly what you are saying. Stay in touch.
Wishing you well. Cheers - Alan
amazing Allan these photos are amazing! I just can't get over it...just beautiful! Makes me want to be back in Pai! Your blog is so well written as well, your trip to cambodia sounds really different than anywhere else as far as the poverty...I don't know if I can deal with seeing that alone! I hope all is good with you, stay safe and healthy!
P.S. my purse was stolen in Laos with every camera...every photo of my trip this past month...gone. yup. it hurts. I was wondering if there is any way (once you get home and are settled) if you could send me some Pai pictures...I would so appreciate it becuase I have none!
Who Knew? Alan! What an adventure. I am truly enjoying every detail -- but who knew what a great photographer you are?! I love these photos. I look forward to the eventual table top book, "Alan Strakey Collection 1." Safe travels and we're looking forward to next post.
