At about the 20 kilometre mark I overtook a gorilla, five ladybirds and a couple of newlyweds. I pressed my doggy nose and the ladybirds turned and smiled as the mask yapped happily. This was the 27thMedoc Marathon, a marathon with a difference. For the full 42 kilometres it winds its way through the Bordeaux vineyards, stopping at each chateaux for a taste of the local produce. Most of the 24 wine stops had an orchestra to add crescendo to the party atmosphere. We had everything from classical to heavy rock as we jogged along with other fancy-dress attired participants.
