Thank you! I just read your last entry. I want to say thank you for spending your time helping others in my country of birth. The people of El Salvador have gone through so much misery for decades, yet their optimism doesn't seem to diminish. And they are grateful to people like you who show them you care. Every once in a while you'll come across a person who is bitter, but don't take it personally. You'll find good people and bitter people everywhere around the world. Muchisimas gracias por ayudar a mi gente. Un abrazo.
Great you are back home It is good to read your blog again. Hopefully it is not the last time you do something similar It was awesome. One of the people from Sierra Madre look familiar do you know if it was his name Raul Membreño I worked with him building the El Salvador Air Port I remember him being a really nice guy. Please write more whenever you find some time. Salu :)
beautiful children Lis, again, we are so proud of you for volunteering your time. There is one shot "waiting for her visitors," which evokes such emotion for me. This is one you need to send to the newspaper. It's just so sad. Makes me want to adopt them all and bring them home. Just call me "Angelina," and David "Brad!"
I love you. Have a safe flight. Talk to you tomorrow!!
thanks for your blog Alyssa, I stumbled across your blog while googling sites on EL Salvador. My 2 children Chris and Cate are also on the Mission trip with you. It was great to see pictures of them. Tell them "HI" from their Mom. Thanks for a great blog. Peggy Hughes
What a Wonderful, fulfilling experience I have to commend you for your selfless efforts in bringing so much joy to those poor children. Using your precious time to help others, and provide such descriptive narrative so that we can follow your experiences, is a great gift from you to all of your loyal readers. I'm sure we all feel the same way. Thank you for thinking of us. Enjoy your last full day in El Salvador, and have a safe flight home. Text me when you get back. Love, Dad
I have a tear and am sooooo touched by you you are amazing I am speechless what an amazing oppurtunity this is I cannot wait to share this with Justin I hope everyone can give even a tiny bit what you have offered the world
Miss you !!!
hola So proud of you for taking a week out of your busy life to do a great "mitzvah" for others. Enjoying your fantastic blog( as usual) and hoping that this adventure will be a wonderful fulfilling adventure for you!!
Have a safe trip back home and call us when you arrive back in the USA.
Love,
Jan
Local stuff Hola Cipotia. Here are some stuff you must try while you are in El Salvador. First you must try a refresco de Horchata, a refresco de Cevada and a refresco de Chan. You must try a Kolashampan soda pop and some Pupusas de Queso y Pupusas de Ayote. You wont find those on any other country. Hopefully you have some good weekend activities planned for the group with some locals. Please write more about your experiences there and be safe. Take care Salu :)
Hi sweet daughter Well, it looks like you are well immersed in a lifestyle you are unaccustomed to. We take what we have for granted, and don't realize how fortunate we are living in the US. This is a great birthday gift from you to you. Cherish this week, learn from it..and love what you have in your life..You are special for embarking on this mission. May this volunteer week be another one of many gifts you give others too!
El Salvador Hola Muchacha. El Salvador has lots of things to see hopefully you find time to do some traveling in the country. If you do go to Tazumal, it is not like Machupichu but it is El Salvador best conserved native temple. Also try Ruta de las Flores that is a pathway that link several little towns with a natural route it is very relaxing, La Palma, Suchitoto, and Illobasco are also towns known for their hand made stuff. Please be safe and write more about your experience ahh yeah pictures would be nice, Salu :).
alpaca Is this one of the alpaca (alpaci?) that you ate? They are really cute and look alot like camels and llamas. If you get lonely for Peru, you can always visit the alpaca farm up the street from us. Just don't stir fry any of them. I held Susan (Rosenstein/Kaleck's) guinea pig today and he was worried I was going to stuff him and eat him. Cute furry little thing.
I am so glad you are having a great time, but looking forward to seeing you in less than 2 days. Sashi misses you too! I taught her a trick. :-) Have a safe trip home and can't wait to hug you.
Love, mom
Loved seeing the MuseoTumbas pixs, it looks great! BUT when I click on the sight ... it"s all in espanol!! Another reason I should learn spanish - maybe you can be my tutor? Have a fun time in Cusco, I can't wait to read about it ;)
great pictures! I can't believe you held that snake- something I never would have done.
The story about the children was sad, but like you said common. It reminded me of the young gypsy children in Italy. This is such a great experience for you!
The pictures were great! Of course being the dog person I am I love the one of the puppy.
Love you! Marci
hola Well, you never cease to amaze me....I am glad that you are having a fun time in Chiclayo and the weather is great. Say hola from Juanita to some cute hombres .Glad that your leg is better and you can resume your adventure with comfort. Keep your amuletos by your side. Glad you had some quality time to observe the student life again in your area.
It is almost your b-day and hope you have a fun with your friends. We will celebrate when you come home.
Hasta manana,
Juanita
senorita sashi Mommy. I love your blog, but I miss you so much. I am not allowed on the furniture, and I am sleeping in my own bed in the hallway, but I do get lots of treats from grandmom. The picture of the anaconda was pretty scary, but the grub was even worse. I wouldn't eat it even if it was covered in my dog food. I am having a good time visiting grandmom and grandpop. They give me lots of love and attention and I go for puppy walks with grandmom every day. When are you coming home? I can lick your leg and make it all better, but my breath is pretty bad. It probably smells like stingray!
Love, Sashi

your leg Hi! I hope the medicine is helping your leg. I am not sure I want to see pictures of your leg with the "dragon blood." Are you having grubs for lunch or anaconda? Yummy! I don't care if they do taste like coconut, they are still larva! Ewwww.
Well, looking forward to your next entry and I guess it will be from Chiclayo. Curious to hear how it differs from Iquitos, and Lima. Poverty everywhere in Peru, for sure. But, you can't wipe the smiles off those kids faces! So sweet.
