On the road outta Shark Bay , Sandy and I stopped at the Shark Bay Ocean Park. Was well worth the stop as we learnt so much about types of fish, turtles, sting rays and SHARKS. The tour guy was young and hot and very very informative and very much into his job, which made the experience awesome. We learnt about the fins on the back of sharks and how to distinguish a man eater to a non man eater. Sharks have sensors from half the body up to the tip of the nose. So if someone is in distress, sick or mamed, then a shark will then pick up the signals from the sensors and find that creature (man or fish) and hunt em down. Raaaaaaaaaaa We also learnt about the best tasting fish to ... read more

Packed up camp early early, crack a dawn early and headed 28 kms to Monkey Mia, got to the national park and got us a nice , shaddy spot with grass (luxury) to camp on. We also got a family of Layer birds thrown in for free. . . not to be confused with EMOOOOS We took a stroll through the camping grounds , checking out the whole complex - it's a pretty awesome set up there. With heaps of tours and walks and excursions to par take on. The tourist dollar is guzzled up round the place. You can take a ride on a boat out to a pearl farm, go on a nature walk, hire a canoe for 3 hours and go fishing on the other side, sunset tours, underwater tours, this and that ... read more

Shark Bay , Denham what a drive !! We stopped off along the way to investigate the stromatolites. What is this business they talk of, with this funny growing rock thats ALIVE . . . was very interesting. You could see the tracks from the old carts they used when carting wheat and sheep to the ships over this growing rock. Then we stopped off at Shell Beach. This place is fantastic. The sound of crunching shells a zillion of em under your feet as you walk towards pristine water. Then scene is B E A utiful. Alex you wouldn't enjoy this beach, if you can't handle crunchy sand this is a no go for you, and for people not wearing thongs . . can be a bit tricky! This is also the place where throwing ... read more

Headed way out east to see our mate Judd who we met @ Mt Snow in 05/06. Mukka is definitely right on the edge of the wheat belt. Lots and lots of sheep and wheat out there though. Went via Goomalling to check out the town where one of Tash's room mates, from London, Brooksy Brooksi, grew up. Judd and his brother (Dane) are running the farm and it's a big set up. Got 40 000ac of country with around 32 000ac in farming and planting around 6000ha this year. Big tractors and wide open spaces sums the place up. Had a crack at the seed truck which has got a road ranger gear box in it..... tough work trying to get the double clutching thing down. On Thursday night we went into Bullfinch (40km east ... read more

After the fun-filled Shanks Family Easter, we all parted ways, not before a few tears were shed. Tash and I headed down to Lucky Bay where we knew there was a great spot that was only accessable via 4x4 track along sand dunes. Was the first 4x4ing we had done in Pat the Pathfinder so it was exciting to get into it. Other than a few close calls, Pat performed very well. We found what we thought was a great place, but the wind quickly picked up and putting up the tent turned into an exercise in futility. Gave up after 2 broken poles and headed to find another spot. Found an awesome spot that was both sheltered and a stones throw from the beach. Stayed here for 2 nights, sharing with the local mouse population, ... read more

We left Mukka round 9.30 and didn't reach Kalbarri til 6.30 at night. You do the maths, thats a lot of K's and long hours on the road. We took all back country roads and were stoked at all the beautfiul towns we passed, specially ones with petrol bowsers that a) were open on good friday and b) took eftpos cards. Dad told us a story bout some petrol stations round Australia not taking cards or some not taking cash, we laughed a bit and told dad that things should have changed since the last time he was on the road. Well truth be told not much has and precaution should be taken as to not get stranded. Once again - thanks for the heads up Daddio. Once in Kalbarri we were hit with the beginning ... read more

We got an early start outta Albany and headed the scenic route to Denmark. Other then roadworks, this road is the most prettiest drive. The fields and valleys are all amazing. We stopped in Denmark out at Ocean Beach, went down to check out the surf. It's a hot stop for the local surfers, so we took it all in and thought , we should have allowed more time so Sandy and I could get out there, the waves were only a couple of foot, but the beaches are beautiful and the waves had some form (next time for sure, or even a weekend getaway for those in Perth ,hint hint - Justine and Tones) Once outta Denmark and heading towards Walpole, the trees take on a form of their own, growing extremley tall in this ... read more

Awesome day even though I came down with a raging head cold. Where meant to go out to Bluff Knoll in the Stirling Ranges to do some trekking but I softed out. So instead had a looky around the historic main street, and picniced in a park for lunch. Headed out along Frenchman Bay Rd to Frenchman Bay to have a look at Whale World, the old Albany Whaling Station which closed down in 1978. They used to hunt Sperm and Right Whales. Pretty gruesom practice, but heaps interesting. Then on the way home called into the Blowhole (remember - don't stand over it!). Pretty cool and noisy. Watched a couple of lads with a death wish out surfing off some rocks. Onto the gap and Natural bridge, where the ocean comes crashing into the sheer ... read more

Hello Everyone Well Sandy and I were off to a good start. We had a great dinner on Friday night at The Saint, our neck of the woods. With a good feed in our tummy's there wasn't a chance for a overly huge night. We gave it a good bash though! The party was great, the company and the stories were a plenty. It was a great send off and Sandy and I rolled home bout 12.30 pm for a good nights sleep. After last minute packing and running the last of the storage to dads shed and after downing a few cuppa's we left the hood and headed to Kings Park to wish little Taj a happy 1st birthday. Staying for only a snippet and a teary farewell we headed off round 3pm to Albany. ... read more
