Day 11 - Ko Pha-Ngan Today was the day after the Full Moon party so obviously nothing big was going to happen. We got up at 12 which meant we had missed breakfast and spent the day alternately blogging and sitting by the pool. Katie's cousin and his entourage paid us a visit for dinner time. Day 12 - Ko Pha-Ngan - Ko Tao We had a leisurely morning of getting ready and then took the lunchtime Songserm ferry over to Ko Tao. The pier was complete chaos and as usual the ferry didn't leave anywhere near on time. The journey was quite interesting because there were loads of reps from all the dive shops trying to sell you their courses etc so it passed he time nicely. It is quite an interesting place because every ... read more

Day 9 - Surat Thani to Ko Pha-Ngan We got rudely awoken at 5.00am by the train guard screaming at us to get off the train, as it was our stop. We did not even have a few minutes warning, it was a case of "quickly, quickly, get off, get off" and I (Sarah) had a major panick when I could not get my padlock off my bag that was attached to my bed. Luckily we all got off fine and typically the train sat there for a further 10 minutes. We were met by the people we booked our transfer with and boarded the first coach to Surat Thani from the train station we arrived at. We had a short coach journey to a random tourist office in the middle of no where with loads ... read more

Day 6 - Chiang Mai (Wilderness Trek) Today was another early start as pick up time was 8am! Sarah, Katie and I were heading off for a walking only trek to the north (6 hours of walking) and the other 3 headed to Chiang Dao; a town also a little further to the north. Our guide was really cool and it turned out he was one of the Karen tribe people originally from Burma. He had grown up in a hillside village but had gone to University and now lived in the city. It was overall a lot nicer to be shown around the jungle and hills from someone who was clearly so passionate about educating and enjoying the place he grew up in with different people. He lead off at quite an alarming pace and ... read more

Day 4 - Chang Mai (Adventure Trek) Our alarm woke us at 7.30am after what seemed like the best 7 hours sleep we have ever had. After our standard breakfast of toast, sliced banana, pineapple, fruit juice and coffee for a cheeky £1.50 our tour guides came to pick us up from the hostel. We were relieved to see they had a real minibus as opposed to a sawngthaew or a convoy of tuk-tuks! There was the six of us plus German and Dutch couples so we had a good chin-wag in the minibus and after driving for about one hour we arrived at the elephant camp. Katie and I were very quick to choose the smallest elephant, soon to find out this was a big mistake as trunk and elephant size are not necessarily in ... read more

Day 1 - Bangkok After quite a pleasant flight from Heathrow (apart from the odd elbow war with the French guy next to us) we stepped out to a rather civilized Bangkok airport and got a taxi off to our rather basic hostel in the Silom District - the financial hub of the city. We were soon advised that taxis where the best way to get around and a long as you stick to the right colour then they are really cheap. So we made our way to the train station as by this time it was 6.30 on a Sunday night, and bought several train tickets to get us around the country over the next few weeks. The only problem being that there was no space on the sleeper up to Chiang Mai for the ... read more
