From snowbound New York, the plan is to spend 3 months in South America taking in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Peru, before a quick whistle stop tour of North America (Miami, San Francisco, Las Vegas and New Orleans).

We left South America almost a week ago now, and it's taken me all that time to think up the best way to describe the Inca Trail experience and our last few days in Peru. I'll have a go, but bear in mind that it's one of those things that you really should do for yourself - it's hard to put into words the mixture of feelings and emotions that four days of walking and three nights of camping can create. On Friday 21st we were picked up early by bus for the start of the biggest test of our 3 months in South America. The night before we'd met our Inca Trail companions - 2 brits (John & Fay), 2 Swedes (Richard and Corinne) and a Norwegian (Anders). Our team of intrepid explorers were quiet ... read more
When was the last time that you got caught up in a political demonstration, visited an island made from reeds, had lunch with an Inca family, bathed in hot springs, watched condors flying and got woken up by an earthquake - all in the space of 6 days? As you can tell, we've had an action packed week, which began with the bus trip from Cuzco to Puno (closest town to Lake Titicaca) last Friday. The bus was due to take 6 hours, and we boarded on Friday morning expecting to be in Puno late afternoon in time to book a trip to Lake Titicaca for the next day. Unsurprisingly, we hadn't factored in 7 unscheduled stops for political demonstrations along the way. About an hour after leaving we came across a load of logs and ... read more
Hello readers As our South American adventure draws to its conclusion, we´ve now hit our last destination - Peru. Having flown out of Buenos Aires on Tuesday morning (we finally decided to give buses a miss!!) we had a quick stopover at Lima and then caught another flight to Cuzco, capital city of the ancient Inca empire and a massive 3,200 metres above sea level. Everyone we'd spoken to and every book we'd read warned about the potential for altitude sickness in Cuzco. We decided to take our chances without pills (what with vitamins and malaria tablets we're already rattling) and just take it easy once we got here. Upon walking out of the airport we faced a scene similar to the one we'd experienced back in Rio almost 2 months ago. Upon spotting a tourist, ... read more
Thought some of you might appreciate an entry of piccies from when we went back to BA, as there wasn´t much space on any of the other entries. So here it is, in all it´s drunken glory. AC... read more
Hey everyone Since we last updated this site a whole lot has happened so grab a cuppa and read on. You'll notice that we've managed to put more photos on too, so you can see for yourselves what we've been up to this past few weeks. Mendoza was an absolute blast! Loads of things to do in the day, loads of places to go at night, and full of the bright young things of Argentina due to its huge University population. We became the all action foursome over the course of this stage of our trip, which began with horse riding last Saturday. Having never tried horse riding before I for one was pretty pensive. We arrived at the ranch and met 4 other travellers who would be joining us on a "gentle trek through the ... read more
Good afternoon everyone The four amigos are warming ourselves up for an afternoon riding horses in the mountains of Mendoza, which will be challenging enough given that none of us speak horse and we don't know the words in Spanish for the various commands. Let me jump back a few days, to another country. After the initial excitement upon arrival in Santiago, Chile, we had a pretty busy few days there. Sunday was a hungover day, as we were saving our energy for Monday when we hoped to get a taste of what Chile was all about. It seems that the answer to that is...gambling! On Monday we decided to go down to one of Santiago's two horse racing tracks and try our luck. Despite being in the centre of a pretty dirty city (smog is ... read more
Hi everyone - hope you all had a nice Easter weekend. Our mood has lightened considerably since you last heard from us, not least because we've finally got into Chile at about the 3rd time of asking. As expected, San Martin de los Andes was quiet, really quiet. We spent the best part of two days doing absolutely nothing until our bus to Mendoza on Friday morning. The two day stay was memorable only for the hostel, which was like either a cub camp or a prison, we couldn't make our minds up! We left San Martin on Friday at 11am, had to change buses at a place called Neuquen on Friday evening, and arrived in Mendoza at about 7am on Saturday. Our run of bad luck continued, as we found that there was nowhere to ... read more
Brace yourselves - this is gonna be a long one! Since seeing sealions be cut off in their prime we've been up to all sorts, not least trekking, fishing, drinking, travelling and more drinking. Today is a bad day, hence the title and if you're patient enough to read to the end of this entry you'll know why. From Puerto Madryn we went to a place called El Calafate, where the last diary entry was written from. The big appeal of El Calafate is the Perito Moreno glaciar, a quite phenomal natural landmark slapbang in the middle of a lake. We spent a day wandering around the national park in which it is housed and then got a boat trip out onto the lake towards the edge of the glaciar. From time to time there was ... read more
I'm sure that I've read somewhere that there are very few life events that stick in the memory into old age. If this is the case, then the four of us filled up one of the few slots on Thursday when we visited Peninsula Valdes. When you last heard from us we'd arrived in Puerto Madryn hoping to see some marine wildlife. The area is most famous for whale watching, but we were told that it wasn't the right time of the year and the only whales we might see if we were lucky were Killer Whales (or Orcas as they are called). As you'll see from the accompanying pictures (as long as I've been able to add them) we were lucky to the extreme. In fact, no end of four leaf clovers, rabbits feet and ... read more
Just a quickie as we're running late for a bus. We've loaded up some new photos for your enjoyment and hope to add a few more on our next stop. These include some pretty awesome piccies from our day on Peninsula Valdes yesterday, more of which will be revealed soon. AC... read more
