Well the retreat is over. What an amazing experience. So blessed to have been able to come and meet the amazing women that were there and Karen Drucker. It had highs and struggles, but overall I am coming home a lot stronger and insightful. The retreat finished on Sunday morning at 9.30am, I had to have the car back by 11.30 so straight off to the airport I scuttled, thanks to the combined effort of Gerry GPS and myself , found the way and made it in good time. Checked the car in and wandered over to the shuttle bus stand and stood amongst the chickens to await the bus. There are bantam chooks all over Hawaii that just roam free, they are just about in pest proportions, even around the airport! 35 min flight and ... read more

Today I check out of Old Lahaina House and head off to the retreat that I came for. Dont have to check in until 5pm so thought I would take a drive to Hana which is one of the things to do while you are here and it will fill in the day, and because I so like to drive on the wrong side of the road! So it is 50 miles to Hana which is on the far east side of Maui, I was staying on the west side. The travel guide says "You have never experienced anything quite like the twisting, turning, spectacular road to Hana." Yep, I agree. I thought the Great Ocean road had a lot of twists and turns, then NZ beat that, well the road to Hana beats them ALL!!! ... read more

Dinner at Fleetwood's was great last night. A rooftop restaurant only open 2 years. Mick Fleetwood lives on Hawaii now. Was sitting at the bar having a drink and in comes a bagpiper! There are 2 pipe bands in Hawaii, who would have thought? Anyway she was there to pipe in the evening or something, but it was cool. Next came in a Hawaiian who did a traditional welcome to the evening and told a bit of a story, all very interesting and a fun thing to see. While having dinner (local fish with lobster and yummy sauce) a guy got up with his guitar and sang requests of 60's and 70's songs, all in all a really lovely place and great atmosphere. This morning headed back over to Kahului to meet up with Marilyn from ... read more

Off I went on my own to the Feast at Lelelast night. I thought they might be big tables and I would be put on a table with others, but no I had a lovely intimate table just on my own surrounded by honeymooners and couples on holiday etc, way to feel like a looser! Anyway I coped ok watching all the waiters. Dressed in just a sarong and thongs (cant say what was underneath, maybe they are like kilts?) except for one guy who had his joggers on, didn't really go with the sarong. My waiter Randy, was very sweet, obviously felt sorry for the lady with no friends and kept brining me drinks. The feast, very aptly named, was magnificent. We went on a journey from Hawaii to New Zealand, to Tahiti and ended ... read more

As I write this it is 4.20pm Sunday (10.30 am Monday in Perth) Just got home from a day out and about. Massive thunder and lightning storm last night for 3 hours and heavy rain, pretty spectacular but got in the way of much sleep. Who needs sleep...this is a holiday! Heard on the radio today that the Big Island broke the record with 4.5 INCHES yesterday until 4.30 pm, and that's not with lasts nights rain. Tropical storm Ana is on her way out. There have been glimpse's of blue sky today and visibility much better, but not sun yet, which is fine, keeps it cooler. Leisurely wake up, breaky on the porch, fresh fruit and yogurt (the pineapple is unbelievable!!!!!!!!). Went to Mass at 11.30. I love going to church in other places. It ... read more

My 9.30am flight to Brisbane was non eventful and arrived on time. My bag was checked through to Honolulu, so said a prayer that it got on the plane as I did. By the time I got to the International terminal and through all the customs and security I had about 50 min before boarding. I sat next to a couple of ladies in their 60's, they were a scream, my neighbour had not flown more that 3 hours before so she was dreading 9.5 hours. Honolulu won't know what hit it when they arrive, they are going to have a ball. Slept on and off over the night. We had to take a detour around tropical storm Ana which made the flight a little longer and bumpier towards the end. As the sun started to ... read more

Only 2 sleeps and I'm on my way for my "out of my comfort zone" adventure. I leave Saturday morning and fly to Brisbane, change planes to Hawaiian Airlines then off to Honolulu then another change to Maui. On arrival I pick up my car and GPS and take to the roads trying to remember to travel on the wrong side of the road (well, our wrong side, their right side!) Heaven help us all! Though when in doubt I'll just bring out the Aussie accent and hope for the best. I am heading to the Old Lahaina House B & B and the Riviera Room for 4 nights. Have booked myself in for a few things to keep me busy, then off to the Karen Drucker retreat on Wednesday. Stay tuned for the adventure, and ... read more

Friday 11th October Mark set out for a days mountain bike tour today. He was picked up at the hotel on a bike and off he, his guide Sally, and another Vietnamese guy through the morning peak hour traffic. Crikeys I was nervous just watching him leave. They rode through the city which was the most challenging part. About a kilometre into the ride the chain jammed in the rear derailleur at a busy intersection and created an interesting crossing to get out of the way and across a few lanes of traffic to get out of the way to then free the chain, over Red river rail bridge which is over 100 years old and was built by the french during their occupation of Vietnam and is now just bikes (motor and non motor) and ... read more

Thursday 10th October Rise and shine and off to our Street Food cooking class. Turned out the 3rd person who had enrolled didn't turn up so it was just Mark and I and Ling again who was going to be our teacher. The class starts with a market tour, which we said we definitely wanted to do again. Ling showed us a few different things today and seeing as we were keen to try things yesterday he decided as we went around to cook us a couple of different delicacies today. He wanted us to try silk worms, as well he bought some sweet potato leaves and stems and some medicinal herbs that his grandparents used to make a cooling juice from. My camera battery died while at the markets so the rest of the photos ... read more

Tuesday 8th October When we arrived back to our hotel in Hanoi on Monday, Anna or tour organiser and lady we had been dealing with from Australia, sat us down and asked for our help. The company we had booked through in Australia and paid in full in May had not paid Hidden Cham in Vietnam yet, even after several email requesting the payment. They wouldn't answer or return Vietnams calls and they were starting to get a little worried. Anna asked if we could call them and discuss with them, and we weren't the only ones that hadn't been paid for. After such a wonderful holiday it left a bit of a sour feeling to the trip. The Vietnamese are all so helpful, kind and friendly and I felt really bad that they had been ... read more
