Happy New Year Happy New Year Nigel. Sounds like you are having a terrific time. Any chance of you posting some photos of these fabulous places?
Love Mandi xx
interesting nige!! sounds like evry market i experienced across india apart from the fact that at least your fish products are alive!! I must admit tho that after many years of eating fish from what appear to be very inadequately kept markets, i always found the fish good and fresh despite heat flies and general squalor! good luck mate
Enjoy the jungle Nige - if it is anything like the Amazon then it will be fab. You have really wetted my appetite for the far east with your bloggs which have really enjoyed reading.
Talk soon
Mandi
bloody hell!! steady on NIgel! we won't recognise you if you keep shrinking!! i always lose weight on the road usually about half a stone due to the same attacks of travellers gut that you keep getting!!
great blogging, keep it up!
a good trip sounds great nigel, please let us know which tour company you went with, sounds reasonable value at $25 per day. your food tourism is making me hungry!!
wow! what Nigel?? one beer a week??? you feeling okay??? I do have the odd dry spell when travelling but not as extreme as that!! think i went 21 days in india without a beer but that was because I'd been there for 8 months and was sick of the taste of kings and kingfisher!! hope you enjoyed the return to the bar!!!

A smell you never forget! The smell of ripe Durian fruit is something that you never forget. It can be smelt from 4 blocks away. Try it for me as I never plucked up the courage in 21/2 years in Singapore.
Shades of your teens So pleased that you are feeling so much better. Hoi An sounds like a great place to chill out and I seem to remember that was your goal in the first place. Was the music maybe for a wake as I seem to recall that funerals in Singapore were very noisy affairs? Or it could have been a wedding!
hello Hope you feeling better, sorry to hear about poor food. I have just had a pork pie. it was rubbish. Have fun on the river, maybe some good fish to eat ? BBQed on board ? G
Loving the commentry Glad things are starting to work ok with you having that rocky start ( phone / camera etc.) The descriptiions are amazing that you are doing , and am glad to see you are managing to keep off the beer most of the time. Maybe I need to take a leaf out of your book here and try going around Dubai on motorbike - then again maybe not. You take you life in your hands with the Taxis.
Looking forward to the photos - any chance of getting them up-loaded?
How happy are you!!! Sounds like you're having an awesome time and thoroughly enjoying yourself mate! its making me hungry (sort of) just reading some of your posts :-)
Anyway, make the most out of it, you dont do these things too often!
Let me know if there's anything I can do regarding the house.
Catch up soon, Mike.
Sunny Sunday Afternoon's Didn't take you long to start eyeing up the ladies, debs says she's looking forward to meeting your new wife when you get back ;-)... Hope the boat trip goes well, should be a nice vue, i hear the purfume river is awsome. Sounds like your getting to grip with the local custom of "ripping off the white man"... Dealt with a class B grower who came from HUE yesterday!!! beware of tattoo'd men, tats mostly prison issue in Da Nam so i'm told.
Looking forward to hearing about Da Nang and what its like post conflict and all that, have a beer of two for us

I'm 44 years old, I live in Hull on Britains East Coast. I took voluntary redundancy in June and am now about to embark on my first serious backpacking trip around parts of SE Asia.
I am particularly interested in spending time trekking in the regions mountains, jungles and rainforests, meeting local peoples, and experiencing the flora and fauna.
Guess who wants to do an MA in Environmental Anthroplogy next year!
