Once you start traveling around, if you stay without at least a weekend getaway for 3-4 weeks, you start craving to go to some place the next week. I had barely traveled out of Bangalore until my 2nd or 3rd year in college when my relationship with travel started (I had infrequently visited a few places but nothing major). After that it has just grown and grown. So, what do you do if you are bored and need a change in scenery ? Pick a nearby tourist spot which you have been waiting to visit and just go there (even if you are 2 or 3 folks). In my case, this resulted in visiting the unique Lonar (Crater) Lake in Maharashtra. A few months back, I and Vivek had registered for a trip with one of ... read more

The planning for the long awaited trip with school friends finally gathered momentum when Ajay (Aj) decided to visit India after completing his Masters in Germany. The final list of people stood at Ajay, Bharath, Maina, Safal, Shruti, Smaran, Umesh and Vrinda (including me of course). All the plans were completed and the bus tickets (KSRTC Airavat - Sleep like a baby) got booked when Maina and Vrinda had to withdraw from the trip. The rest of us still ready to take some time off, booked the hotels using the GoIbibo app and were all set for the trip. Tip: Bharath made us book each day of the hotel (even if same hotel) separately with 3 of us booking on different accounts for better discounts :P Can't complain as it does help :) The first destination ... read more

As it had been a while since my last outing with office folks, I and my ever-ready trek buddy, Vivek planned a weekend getaway to Rajmachi in Maharashtra through the Hyderabad Trekking Club (HTC). This time, our old trip pal, Aditya Vaish (recently married) was very zealous to come with us as he had finally obtained the permission to go for a short weekend trek. Along with him, Sulbha and Anuvrat joined us in their usual style taking more than a month to decide how many among their friends would come along, the final count being 0. This again as always led to us calling our trek organizer umpteen number of times before finalizing the exact number. Ankur, Nishchay and Firoza were the newcomers in our trekking group while Nikhil too decided to join probably as ... read more

It all started out with Patil whatsapping us that we should go for the Mount Bromo trek. Previous year after our amazing Singapore trip, we had decided to try and organize one International trip every year. So when Patil heard from his friend about Mount Bromo, he was quick to jump on it. This time convincing people was not very difficult after our successful and fun filled Singapore trip. Even KP (who previously needed at least 5 people confirmed to even think about a trip) agreed almost immediately. So the final list of people included me, Arvind, GP (Suhas), Harsh, KP, Patil, Pramod and Preejit. We first had a few Google hangout sessions to decide the places to visit. Once that was decided, we met during a weekend to book the flights and hotels. The hotel ... read more

Out of the blue, Mayank sent out a mail saying Sharat approved a plan for a Kerala trip and cheap flight tickets were available for the same. As with most people by the time everyone was done adding people into the mail thread and looking at Rahu and Ketu Kala for deciding whether to go on the trip or not, the tickets disappeared and it was thought that the plan was cancelled. But due to persistence of a few, the sparks reignited and the plan was back on track. Sulbha had found Sonam to give her company and Anuvrat had also decided to join us for the trip. I, Abhishek, Mayank and Sharat made the rest of the trippers. We reached Cochin by flight. With our Malayalam speaking Sharat leading the way, Sharat's family (that was ... read more

Dudhsagar falls is among the tallest waterfalls in India and is said to be a visual treat. Thus, it had been in my travel list from quite some time (from my college days itself where it kept getting postponed). So this time around, when Vivek suggested that we go for it, I jumped at the opportunity to go there (though he had to back out). A few more people from my office joined me. Sulbha who always has issues finding company to travel with, surprisingly convinced her then flatmate Nidhi to accompany her. This was their first trek ever and little did they know that treks were not beds of roses. We had registered for the trek through Hyderabad Adventure & Trekker's club (HATS) club and we reached the railway station at about 9 pm after ... read more

How can anyone say no to a trek which involves the beautiful Kerala during just after monsoons and a heart shaped lake ? So we did not and proceeded to book our ride with GHAC (Great Hyderabad Adventure Club) for the trek. We promptly reached the Cyber towers in Hyderabad at around 7 - 7 30 pm assuming everyone would be there on time. Big mistake! The bus was late by almost 2 hours or more and we spent the time there in bonding session and roaming around Shilparamam. We met the organizers Gautham, Tejaswini and Santhosh who coerced some fellow trekkers into buying raincoats in case it rained during our trek (Rain surprisingly never materialized for the whole of our trek and those who had bought the raincoats ended up cursing them). Finally the bus ... read more

It all started with Akshay and Ranjan planning to attend the Singapore Grand Prix (F1 race). The rest of us were indifferent towards it but wanted to go for an international trip. They had already roped in Pramod and Suhas (GP) before they asked me to join. I had never been out of India and thus, jumped at their request. Yashwanth on the other hand gave us a threshold (6 excluding him) for the number of people joining us in order to grace us with his presence. We were not able to meet his threshold by 1 person because of which he declined to join us. After booking the flight tickets, we quickly searched for hotels to stay in and found a backpacker's motel called G4 Station. It had decent enough reviews and we decided to ... read more

A final hurrah using his final LTC before his retirement. And so the plan was made for our Sikkim trip to celebrate my dad's retirement the next year (Darjeeling included but I didn't like it that much so I have no issue leaving it out of the title). This time my dad's friend GP Nagarajan and his wife Shashikala also decided to join us. The planning phase started and we had a look at all the popular tourist attractions in Sikkim. Initially my mom was doubtful whether to choose Gurudongmar lake and Yumthang valley as Gurudongmar Lake is at 17,800 ft altitude and hence, it is generally warned that low oxygen levels might cause issues. I saw its pics and reviews and tried my best to convince her that it was not that dangerous. Finally she ... read more

This was one of those random treks which just happened thanks to SpiceJet :) One day few of us noticed that SpiceJet was offering pretty good discounts on flight tickets to Delhi. We just booked it during the Republic Day weekend as we would be getting 3 days of holidays together. Apart from Vivek and Aayush (my usual trek partners), Yash decided to join this time. The plan initially was to go to Vaishno Devi when Aayush suggested this trek of 2 days duration. We anyway had Roopkund on our radar for the year and thought this would be a great as a mini Roopkund-ish trek. So it was decided that we shall conquer Prashar and in the process test our trekking skills in a cold climate. We reached Delhi one day early and roamed around ... read more
