Welcome back to the road...
I questioned your choice of countries, but you explained it very well; walking into India with your eyes wide open, knowing the cons and looking for the pros. It helps to have Jay there as it seems to protect you from the treatment normally accorded a woman traveling alone. I look forward to Jay's blogs too. Coincidentally, I was the Moderator who "accepted" him as a new blogger...one of our jobs is to weed out the spammers!

picture in boat
I thought the picture in the boat with the hat was very indicative about how much you have grown since starting this trip. A determined self confident look. Something a solo traveler needs.

good luck!! :o)
When we came back home from our "long" trip (OMG, it was 3 years ago!!!) it was a mix of bitter sweet feelings, cause I was looking forward to sleep in my own bed, but also sad to leave all those places, experiences and people behind... it took me a while to get used to be back in the rat race, but I guess it has to be done. Good luck with it and I look forward to reading about your next adventure! Deni

Welcome/Bienvenue back fellow Canuck
Best of luck with your re-entry. I'm still suffering from mine...plus this nasty foot itch that only seems to go away when I arrive somewhere sunny and tropical.

re: Welcome/Bienvenue back fellow Canuck
Thanks!! Yikes on the foot itch...but I think it's sending you a message that you should stay in the tropical regions ;) Best of luck with everything! x Rae

I've enjoyed reading about your journey...
both outer and inner. I'm pleased that you will commence another adventure in the near future. Edmonton is not the place to be in the winter! Give us a sneak peak soon of where you plan to go. Don't wait too long if you are going to new Zealand as the end of summer is just around the corner.

re: I've enjoyed reading about your journey...
Hello :) Thank you so incredibly much for all of your guidance and support throughout this journey of mine. Your messages have always brought a smile to my face and heart. And I definitely plan on getting myself out of this frosty country asap ;). My best to you in all that you do and hope that our paths continue to cross in some way. xx Rae

Somehow my comment above was labeled Anonymous by TB...
but it was from me. The flashpacker reference was to my first comment on one of your blogs. Anyway, it's great that you had a wonderful time with Jay over Christmas and New years. My son is now in Penang, and will fly to Bangkok on Feb 5 where he will begin his CELTA course, and then teach until June. If you think you will be teaching scuba in Ko Tao between now and then, I might send him during school break to learn to dive. Otherwise, if you are still planning to visit New Zealand we are very interested in blogs from there as we will visit that country in October.

Out of adversity -
comes opportunity. Otherwise you would never have met Jay. So we should never complain about adversity; just look for what we are supposed to learn from it...and such experiences make for the best stories! We're pleased that you went from "awkward hello and hug" to having "one hell of a future together;" all in three weeks. And that Jay adapted to the backpacker lifestyle so readily...no more flashpacker for you if you can remember that long ago. So will you work as a dive master some more, see more of Asia and the world, or head back to Canada?

re: Out of adversity
Hello! Yes, very true. Adversity is important, as is acceptance of that and a nonjudgemental attitude. I work very hard at that, however, apparently unfortunately fall short sometimes. I'm still working out the details of what's to come for me, not planning that far ahead these days. I know that there is more travel in my future and potentially living abroad someplace for a while. Time will tell! Oh, and I still flashpack once in a while too ;) Thanks for your comments!! x

Isn't that the truth. We fellow Canucks are very envious that you are chasing that full-life dragon in Asia!

Finding balance
After two months working with children in Cambodia (and you did make a difference!), it's great to see you working towards your Master Diver certificate, and having so much fun with good friends. I can see you teaching diving for a while.

...and the next chapter begins.
Hey Raelan, I've been keeping up with your adventures. Your time in Cambodia seems to have left a real impression on you. I'm sure you did a lot of good for the kids there. I hope you enjoy your diving. I learnt to dive for the first time in Thailand and its a bug I've well and truly caught! Enjoy your next chapter. It sounds like your friend has raised your spirits. Take care James

Hi Raelan - Just a quick note to "echo" Tanya's comment....I think you look FABULOUS for Fashion Week!! Very radiant & life just shines through you!! Love the shoe shot! I can't actually believe you've been 'on the road' as one would say, for now 6 months!! Crazy!! I am excited to read all about your continuing adventures and see the world through your pictures which are always beautiful yet in some cases humourous at the same time...loved the picture & story behind "Colour Blind" guy! All the best with saying good-bye to Nancy, but hey...at least you can go on motorbike adventures with your Dad one day now! I just took Sophie to see 'The Wizard of Oz' play on the weekend and the song, "..we're off to see the Wizard" & "..follow the yellow brick road" popped into my head as I think of you and your adventures!! And as always, safe travels for the coming adventures! Lots of love & respect!! reb xo

Fashion Week
Hi Raelan :) It's been way too long since I've posted a comment. First of all ... You looked amazing for fashion week! So glad you had a great time & had the oppurtunity to be treated like royalty! Secondly, I'm so inspired and in awe of your accomplishments during these past 6 months. Where are you heading to next? I'd love to join you, but I still need someone to give me a swift kick in the butt and a little added courage to walk away from the life I'm currently leading. However, one thing you have taught me is to be grateful every day for even the smallest blessings. Thank you :) Love, Tanya
