Only ended up staying in Luxembourg for one night and then headed off into Germany and up the Mosel Valley. Wineries on both sides of the valley and sometimes you wonder how the hell they manage to operate them seeing as some of them are hanging off the side of a cliff. At this point I should also apologise if a few stray letters appear in the text but I am typing on a German keyboard and a few letters are in different places (eg the y & z are swapped around) so forgive any spelling mistakes. Spent the night in [View Full Entry]

Another Lunch

After a really cold morning we left La Roche heading towards Luxembourg City. via Vianden, a nice town on another river. It had a good looking castle (sorry...Chateau, as we are now in French speaking part of Belgium) but we didn't go in as we couldn't be bothered. Looks like travel apathy starting to set in. Had for lunch, (what is currently in our top 5 snacks) a fantastic pork-veal mince sausage and onion kebab which was deep fried and then covered in this tomato-BBQ sauce which was delicious. Add to that world class 'frites' and we had it made. Ended [View Full Entry]

Left Brussels on 21st June and travelled to La Roche in the Ardennes in south Belgium. Stopped in a beautiful place called Leuven on the way and had some lunch and a wander around. Continued down to La Roche via a spectacular scenic route through Namur, Dinant, Hans sur Lesse, Rochefort and into La Roche. Spent the night on the banks of the 'Ourthe' river at a nice campsite and enjoyed sitting besides the river taking in the sounds of nature. We discovered in the morning that the local air force must use the valley as a training ground as fighter [View Full Entry]

Monshau, Belgium

Well it was an eventful day & night ! We went to bed reasonably early but a couple of Aussies in a camper van sat up half the night drinking with some guy who was obviously trying to pick up. Not sure if he succeeded, but was giving it his best shot. Spent the day in Brussels which was great, although big mistake trying to drive in. Will use public transport next time. Thanks to the nice policeman who suggested we park somewhere safer just when we found where we wanted to be. Didn't fancy getting the car broken into on [View Full Entry]

Well the real holiday finally started today with us leaving the UK and catching the ferry from Dover to Dunkirk and then driving the couple of hours to Brussels. It’s been 4 years since our last proper holiday together (our honeymoon in Greece) and we have been looking forward to this for some time. Thanks to Ness (Rach's sister) for lending us her new car and all the camping gear. We arrived in Brussels late afternoon and decided to just sit back and relax for the evening with pasta, wine and chocolate. [View Full Entry]

Spending a couple of days at Rachel's mums getting ready for the big trip on Monday. I will have to update more UK info when we get back to UK in August as we have no photos from there with us. [View Full Entry]

After many months of preparation, its finally take off day on our big adventure. Rachel and I decided to pack it all in and head off overseas, mainly because a great opportunity came up for us to spend 12 months in Tanzania in East Africa working at the School of St Jude’s just outside Arusha city near the base of Mt Kilimanjaro. With this as the main destination we thought it only appropriate to have a decent holiday before hand and spend some time catching up with family and friends (we also didn't want to only do that in UK winter, [View Full Entry]
