Nearly 2 months have gone by now since I arrived in Brisbane. A number of interesting events have occured since the last post. Leaving the best for last here goes: With respect to my free time, I have gotten to know the city better. Together with some of the guys at the hostel, I went to see the public pools on South Bank which are great to relax and have a chilled out evening. From there it isn't very far to Knagaroo Point, a 200 metre long wall that used to be the source of the rocks used to build houses in the city. Now, however, it has been converted into a climbing wall for anyone with gear to use. Technically all I need now is some equipment to start climbing the around 20 metre high ... read more

I arrived in Australia nearly 3 weeks ago now. I spent 22 hours in transit plus the time to and from airports. It was an exciting journey and a tiresome one. I took the Heathrow Express from Paddington in London and got everything sorted to get on my flight. The first part of my journey consisted of a 12 hour flight to Kuala Lumpur. 3 movies, a quarter of my book and some failed attempts to sleep later, I landed in Malaysia feeling sticky, tired and with a strong desire to brush my teeth. The two hours in Kuala Lumpur went by pretty fast and I made the most of them updateing the most important people of my status. From there it was another 8 hours to Brisbane airport. I actually got to sleep a few ... read more

Delhi My first impression was: this is exactly like Egypt or Morocco. And the truth is, although obviously there are many differences between one and the other, you can still find the exact same characteristics of an undeveloped country. The dusty roads, the lack of bins hence rubbish everywhere, the masses of people wandering around, the clothes that don't fit properly, the mix of traditional clothing and western fashion from a few years back or a combination of the two. The erratic driving is fun to watch and I must admit that I found it pretty funny when I first noticed that the vast majority of cars have the external rear view mirros either taken off, pressed against the side of the car or simply ripped off due to the proximities and speed at which they ... read more

I know you're all waiting desperately for the first entry of me in India, but this one goes first. have just a little more patience ;) Sé que en realidad quieren enterarse ya de la que estoy armando en la India, pero esto va primero. Un poco de paciencia ;) Madrid Madrid really surprised me. From what people had always told me I was expecting a hectic, unfriendly city with matching unpleasant weather. None of this was the case, at least not for the 5 days I was there. I guess I must add that I was extremely lucky with the weather as every single day it was sunny and at least not as cold as I had feared. Also, having mentally prepared myself for the long travel times I remembered from London, I was not ... read more

Los españoles tienen que bajar un poco para leer el resúmen en español ;) Well, the backpack is nearly filled with all that I will own for the next at least 6 months, I have had all my vaccinations put up to date, said goodbye to all the people I could, got the medical kit complete and even managed to apply for the travel insurance on time. I'm as ready as I think I can be at this point. Up to now it hasn't quite sunk in yet that I am not going to be back here for nearly 2 years. Although I aknowledge that I am going to throw myself into very unfamiliar territory for a rather long time, I'm not really that nervous ... just excited. This is basically the first post as an ... read more
